Mitsubishi Lancer one of CR's most reliable cars

Wow, good news for Mitsubishi, getting two of their newer models on the reliability list (Lancer & Endeavour).

Not surprising, they are two of the newer cars/platforms in their lineup. Certainly can't hurt their image.

Most Volkswagen models were rated far below average for reliability. The all-wheel drive Volkswagen Passat received the lowest reliability rating of any vehicle in the survey.

A spokesman for Volkswagen of America did not deny that the company's products have had problems.
where are the vw non-believers now??? 😛

Mazda3 eh? Wierd. I thought they had quite a few naggling issues and recalls. Thought that would hurt things. Plus Mazda as a whole was down in the dumps.

We're trying to convince my wife's best friend to dump her Beetle as it's been an absolute POS. Cute car and (if it worked) perfect for her needs. But it's constantly in the shop and has been a huge moneypit. And on a teacher's salary she just can't afford to constantly be pouring money into it. Seeing as how this is the only car she's ever owned though she just assumes the kind of issues her car has are normal.

The solution she's settled on lately is to sell it and get a Jetta . . .

Just picked up a '05 Jetta GLS in January on a very good deal, but... it's been in the shop 3 times already.

First time: Tranny would slip out of gear, car would lurch as soon as you put it in reverse, check engine light comes on and off randomly, so I took it in. They said the factory had put the wrong type of oil in and that had screwed up the 'puter and so they reset everything and sent me on my way. Did the 5k checkup/oil change for free.

Second time: Check engine light again. Took it in, they replaced a sensor. They said they weren't sure if this would solve the problem, and that they would just replace parts until it got fixed. WTF? Also the drivers side window button broke, so they replaced it and works fine now.

Third time: This one was my fault, and as I was driving home from picking my car up from the shop (see #2 above, yes, THE SAME DAY), I ran something over on the freeway and it ruptured my fuel line. So I had to have the fire dept. come and sign off that it was okay to get it towed. Was without a car for a week, and it cost me $660 to get it fixed. Damn dealerships.

Now, my gas gauge never reads full. My co-worker had the same exact problem and they tore his car apart and still didn't fix it.

Also, while moving there's a whistling sound that seems to be coming from the drivers side mirror, which they say the can take apart, fill w/ foam and that should quiet it.

What's next? Fixing my tire w/ bubble-gum? Super gluing any molding that comes loose?

I'm seriously thinking about jetting this Jetta and getting something else.
