<< Because this car have hign milege. I would go with a honda or toyota. But $4000 is not going to get you a 97 Toyota. >>

Yeha, I know but 4000 usd won't get me a honda or Toyota.

<< How's the transmission? >>

Yeah I was about to say you better get it checked cuz Mitsu's have a reputation for having horribly unreliable transmissions.. I'm talking failures at only 45K.. :Q

the thing about any car you buy for $3500, you better have at least $1000 for repairs when something breaks, which will happen.

<< How's the transmission? >>

I'm awaiting an answer on that. How do you see if a transmission is acting weird or about to die???

iamwiz82 - I hear ya, it's either I'm lucky to get a problemless car or I'll at least have to change a thing or two. 🙂

I'll be able to answer that this coming weekend. 😀 I need to get my license first though. 😀

It's probably a good deal. Just keep changing the oil. I seriously doubt you'll need a rebuild after only 140,000 miles. If the oil is changed regularly, 200,000++ miles is easy in any car.

Make sure the automatic transmission fliud has been changed at least once along the way. If it hasn't, get it 100% flushed right away, and keep it on schedule (schedule is in the manual) from here on out. It will probably be fine for a long time. If the fluid doesn't get changed, you will be looking at tranny trouble well before 200,000 mi.

Another update

Looks like everything is going very good. I've just ran a carfax report on it and it has a CLEAN record. Then I've checked the bookvalue for the car and it's more than 5k dollars everywhere around Michigan. Looks like I would have to jump on it soon. 🙂 Before she changes her mind and sell for a higher price. 🙂

I'd say go for it
good price..
i have a 96 galant 137k and still going
no big problems so far "knock on wood"
i got a great deal on it.
when i bought it two years ago..
i paid 4K it had only 40K miles on it.
feel free to ask me any questions you might have in mind.
pretty quick car .. compared to other 4s out there.
i don't think its a VR4
VR4 was a special model galant from the early 90s or late 80s
it had turbo

good luck

FInallast, nice to hear that your Galant is working right. 🙂 Enable your PM, I've got some stuffs to ask ya. 😀

Latest update. I've got a feel of the car. I drove it today and it was smooth. Hard to believe that it's already 100k++ on it. The transmission is perfect and the shifing is smooth. The alignment is off by abit but no biggie. Sped down the highway and the steering wheel is firm. The car was abit dirty but this can be cleaned. Some dents on the door(normal for cars I guess). The dent on the side was not that bad. Was told that it would take about 2-300 bucks to fix it.

There's a crack on the glass in the front mirror though. It's not big, can't feel the dent crack you run your fingers through it in the car. Cause of crack is from a rock I guess. How much is it to change the whole front mirror?? 😀 It's not a problem but of course, I'll want it change if it's cheap. 😀

She's offering 3500 and won't go any lower now. What are the comments you guys can give?? 😀

Cool that she's holding onto it this long for you 🙂

Or is there a reason she can't find another buyer? 😕

Not too sure but she's the slack kind. Prolly tried looking for other buyers but the dent turned them off. 🙂 I was turned off by it too but was told by my friend that the dent will not take much to fix. Even if the total cost to fix the car and buy it comes to 4000 bucks, I still think it's a good deal considering the fact that it's smooth and running.

Maybe I'll try asking her tonight why she never tried looking for others. 😀 I've ben communicating with her, that's why she kept the car for me, after all, we'll close friends. 😛

VR-4 Galants were only sold in the US in '91 & '92.
195HP 2l 4-cylinder turbo w/AWD and 4 wheel steering. Highly modifiable and fairly reliable.
Probably the closest thing in the US at that time to a production rally car next to the Mazda 323 GTX and Subarau Legacy turbo.
