I *think* MotorTrend gave the STI a slight edge when they did a head on head comparison. I toss my backissues so I can't confirm that. Checking their website now...

Edit: ok, so maybe motor trend didn't do a head to head comparison of those two.

Go Mitsubishi!

The Evo is decent looking - I saw one up close for the first time last week. The STi is hardly fugly and imo better than the Evo in terms of looks (minus the gold wheels)

and how!

Personally, I don't mind the gold wheels on the STi. It just seems to match (in my mind, at least)

No
It is other way around.
Subaru looks good and Lancer looks bad...
And the Lancer's interior is even crappier.. seriously my 96 Honda Civic has a better looking interior design/ergonomics than Lancer...(I had a chance to test drive both cars)..

I just dislike gold wheels. Gold + blue = WTF? Too bad they don't make black wheels - it'd look sweet with a black STi. (Theres a bunch of normal WRx's around here with black wheels. Looks sexy as hell)

It also has the VW Golf R32 thrown in for comparison. :D

...Which held up well against those two animals, not to mention the R32 was on street rubber. I really like the R32, but I wouldn't ever buy it.

Yeah, so do I BUT it is overpriced.

I mean, you do get a lot of goodies that aren't otherwise available on this side of the pond, but it's still a $47,000(CDN) Golf. :)

Isn't the Lancer FWD unless the front wheels slip? Defeats the purpose of AWD in a performance car.

who told you that? its a 50/50 or 40/60 type ditrobution till slip. Then it moves torque to which ever side needs it.

It's a 50/50 viscous coupling type of center differential, a la Subaru Impreza (non-automatic trims and excluding STi).

Get this. I went to my buddies house yesterday....and the house across his had an brand spanking new STi and a brand new E46 M3!! IN TEH SAME FREAKING GARAGE!! The owner was a young Doctor (a Sikh guy, which surprised me even more...I told him so too..you don't see many Indian splurging on expensive cars...atleast not over here). The STi was his brothers, and the M3 was his.

I was jealous.

I respected Edmunds until I read this. Now I wonder. I mean... they complain about the new Subaru 6-speed? I would almost kill to have that bulletproof wonder in my WRX. Gears too close-ratio'ed? It's geared like a rally car for godssakes..

Say what they will, the STi is the better car. Fit-and-finish and body stiffness on the latest Impreza lineup is much better than the Lancer. Concerned about the small amount of body roll or the steering in the STi? IMO, Subaru was just trying to make it possible to still use that beast as a daily driver and (if it really bothered you) the problem could be fixed quickly with aftermarket parts.
In fact, it's in the aftermarket that I predict the STi will really shine. The modding has only just begun...

edit: btw, I prefer the silver wheels. The black and the gold ones just don't do it for me. Black wheels I especially don't like.

On Top Gear it's the 2nd fastest car they've ever tested on their track (The Evo). Beating out their Ferraris and Lambos

YOW

The Zonda I want to say is #1

That wing is just silly lookin, if they took it off it would look okay for what it is.

But as far as drivetrain I still won't trust a mitsu anymore

0-60 in 5.8 secs for the STi sounds kind of slow doesn't it?

I also like the article's political correctness in calling Ricers fans of The Fast and the Furious.
