MIT undegrad decisions came out today

Congratulations! 🙂

Are you coming here?

well, not sure until other admissions decisions start coming in. It's definitely at the top of the list though.

To ScottFern, I believe tuition costs are around 40-45k/yr apart from any finaid. Hopefully, I'll get some, but I doubt it, being upper-middle class (shafted).

uhh

are you sure on 40-45k a YEAR? For undergrad, no matter how good it is....160-180 is FCKING expensive

anyways enjoy bioengineering - here is a tip from one :
see if they offer a Biomedical/bioeng minor, and go for a mech/elec/chem engineering major and then minor or specialize in bioeng if they have an option...its a much better pathway

It's 33.6 for tuition and 9.95k for room and board.

On a side note, congrats on getting in to MIT. I didn't even bother applying at that school, you must have a kick ass GPA and SAT.

yeah, tuition is around 33k/yr + associated costs

gpa unweighted was like 3.85
taking 3 ap's now for a total of 9
sat - 2310

40-45k is right, but that includes their estimates for housing/food/books/travel/etc. The tuition component is like 30 or 32K... I forgot exactly how much. But if you live in one of the cheaper dorms (EC!), cook for yourself (instead of eating out or eating campus food), then you can hold costs in the upper 30s instead of the low-mid 40s.

But yes, it is uber-expensive.

Edit: are you coming to CPW? You should--skip some days of school 😛

What are you studying?

i put bioengineering, but it doesn't matter. At MIT all freshmen are undeclared, and then you delcare your major by sometime in your sophmore year

Congrats! If I could go back to college, I'd go into nanoscience 🙂

40k for tuition and cost? :Q Insane. Prices are out of control.

Almost no undergrad is worth that IMO.

What the hell, the SAT's changed from a 1600 point scale? That sucks... now my 1240 sounds pathetic 🙁

BTW Congrats on getting into MIT you huge nerd 😀 j/k

I hope your parents are picking up the tab. It'd suck to get through just undergrad with 150k in loans.

well, they'll have to pick up some (probably most) of it. They wanted me to go to some prestigious private school. Right now I'm applying for a bunch of scholarships and will need to find a summer job.

Congrats, I applied there and was deferred and then rejected.
I think it worked out though, apparently college is hard work at MIT.

Private schools are getting past the 150k$ overall "experience" costs. Pretty soon (read: 5-10 years) you will have to take out special "mortgage" type loans on your education because nobody would be able to afford it out of pocket 🙁

Good job man. I wish you the best of luck. I'm going to be doing Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly this coming fall, didn't even consider MIT as an option.
