I am still interested in playing this expansion, but just to reiterate and be redundant.... I wonder if Dreamworks is going to sue blizzard for ripping off Kung Fu Panda or if they are in bed together.

(yes I read the thread and know they were in WC3 before kung fu panda, but regardless...)

This expansion seems so uninspired. I really feel that WoW needs a pretty large and innovative change to prop it back up... and based on what they've released, MOP isn't going to do that. If SWTOR is any good at all (and based on everything I've seen so far, it will be) I can't see myself going back to WoW. At least, not for this expansion.

If you love raiding and Arena, and you haven't gotten sick of them, it looks like a pretty decent expansion. But I can't see how some half-assed new PVE systems and a few battlegrounds is going to make people want to play the game again.

I can only assume that most of their real design talent is working on Titan.

You stfu with that panda hate shit.

I will be playing again if I get to be a panda hunter.

not hate really...just seems really uninspired and trite. like i said, i have already quit after playing for 5 years. i'm not raging or threatening to quit because of this. i loved the game and gave it a lot of my time. i'm not a hater, just sad to see the direction the game is taking.

I know Blizzard wants to cater to their Chinese audience, but, IMO this new race almost comes across as racist...

it will have quite the opposite effect.

Panda is a sacred animal in China.

Having Pandarean as a playable race, will cause blizzard to lose a billion subscribers. this is NOT catering to the chinese audience, but in fact, a big FU to them.

Can't you remember the Panda Hero in Warcraft III's special mission? One that came in a later TFT patch I believe.

Here we go - Founding of Durotar Campaign

Chen Stormstout... one of their most popular characters

What's wrong with people being left behind? There's some odd fascination that everyone has to be able to do everything in the game. o_O

Is this even true in the eyes of their gaming generation?

You have no clue what you're talking about. Both Kung Fu Panda movies did very well in China.

Kung Fu Panda 2 smashes China's box office records

Kung Fu Panda 2 enjoys a warrior's welcome in China, where it raked in an eye-popping £11m on its opening weekend
...
While the series is made in Hollywood, Kung Fu Panda has always been popular in China. The first instalment also broke box office records when it was released three years ago.

The film was extremely controversial in china..

Along with breaking ticket records in China the movie has drawn protests calling for a ban of its release, making Kung Fu Panda a source of controversy.

Since the panda is a sacred animal in china, ANYTHING that depicts pandas becomes extremely controversial.

The9 was Blizzard's distributor in china for years, and they had huge control over everything.

Now that the partnership has ended... it might have opened a few doors.

Yeh, I can see where cultural misunderstandings can backfire. Hopefully, Blizzard did their homework. Going to be so ironic if they release something lame like Kung Fu Panda and replacing Asians with Panda Bears thinking it will cause subscription rates to skyrocket in Asia and then everyone switches over to Lineage 2 or the Korean MMO Grinder of the day.

i was reading a developer interview before, and apparently they're going to make the architecture and culture and style more "Japanese" to avoid culture clash.

So, they use a symbolic animal of the Chinese people to portray Japanese culture...

This should go over real well!

I do not know any Japanese people, but my girlfriend is Chinese and throughout her time in their educational system, she was basically inundated with Anti-Japanese propaganda. Take it, I understand why they could hold a grudge, the Japanese occupation during The War was... not pleasant.

It is staggering how many people don't know that Panderans existed FIVE YEARS before Kung Fu Panda came out...

That's the one major thing that is ruining the reception for this expansion. Everyone thinks Blizzard is stealing the idea.

The VAST majority of Chinese don't have an issue with it. It wasn't a problem for the movies and it won't be a problem for WoW.

honestly.. it has nothing to do with the vast majority. it has to do with who blizzard has to deal with for licencing.

Relaunching an MMO in China requires governmental authorization

Cataclysm only launched in China about 3 months ago...

The war? Oh, you mean that war 70 years ago?

Yeah, build a bridge and get over it. It is stupid to hold a grudge forever.

I was playing it at Blizzcon and Ill say right now it does not look Japanese at all. Its more of, monks living in the mountains training kung fu style.

As for letting it go, you eventually see people being born that simply don't care much about it, but I've always thought that the inability to let go of the past comes from their strict ideas of respect.

I've always wondered if that also played a part in Japan attacking us in WW2. We did kind of force them to open trade, and by force I mean with naval warships. Given the whole being unable to forgive people, I don't see them forgetting such a thing even though it happened about a century before.

All the videos I saw looked more Chinese than Japanese... like stuff you'd see in Kung Fu movies.

They better not create a WoW Zoo and breed Panda's. They would be in huge trouble.
