I'm not sure why they went with Pandas when they could've come up with an expansion that would actually push the storyline forward instead (Burning Legion and Sargeras come to mind)

This sounds like a 'filler' expansion that's meant to milk the game just a little bit more before they wrap things up for their next MMO. The changes sound exciting, but I'm not sure about the setting.

I think the new talent system could actually work pretty well. Check out the preview. The talents actually look like fun and interesting abilities. There's no single mandatory dps/hps increasing talent. I would've liked if they bumped up the # of tiers. Maybe every 10 levels instead of 15.

As for the Pandas. Meh. I probably won't roll one. But I will roll a monk. Story wise, nothing will beat the Litch King for me for that "Holy shit we just killed the Litch King feeling." I've been doing 90% pvp in Cata so far so anyway. And I see a DOTA style bg on one of the slides. That's going to be awesome.

Also the pokemon battle system seems lame. I don't mind that its there but I think they are focusing a bit too much on it. Listing it as a major feature of the expansion seems like the work could've been used for something less random.

I don't mind the Pandas at all. I'm hoping their racial bonus (+100% food bonuses) doesn't change, because that's a huge bonus compared to my Draenei (+1% hit). It'll probably get nerfed to something like +50% though, because typically people use food for major stats (intellect, agility, strength, etc.) and the major stats are typically worth a bit more. I guess I'll have to look at it more. It helps that I hate being a fat space goat as well!

As for the Monk class, I was hoping that I could save the name RockLee (reference) and make a Human Monk for the posterity of it. Unfortunately (and unsurprisingly), the name isn't available.

I think the issue is that so much time was spent on the old world for Cataclysm, and this pretty much doesn't even benefit the actual expansion (it was available in the 4.0 major patch release). I assume that took a lot of time and planning, which took away from so much more. Although, it interesting that we got 12 bosses in the first raiding tier, but 7 and then 8 (last two being Deathwing).
