Gov. Nixon Calls For ‘Vigorous Prosecution’ Of Darren Wilson

Not content with a regular prosecution or a vigorous investigation, Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon said he hopes that Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson will receive a “vigorous prosecution” in the shooting death of Michael Brown on Aug. 9.

“A vigorous prosecution must now be pursued,” Nixon said in a five minute video address posted to his website Tuesday.

“The democratically elected St. Louis county prosecutor and the attorney general of the United States each have a job to do,” said Nixon, a Democrat.

“Their obligation to achieve justice in the shooting death of Michael Brown must be carried out thoroughly, promptly, and correctly,” said Nixon of investigators.

Teen shot by cop suspect in recent robbery

A suburban St. Louis police chief on Friday identified the officer whose fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager ignited days of heated protests, and released documents alleging the teen was killed after a robbery in which he was suspected of stealing a $48.99 box of cigars.

Jackson said Wilson, along with other officers, was called to the area after a 911 call reporting a "strong-arm" robbery just before noon.

Missouri crowd after shooting: 'Kill the police'

The fatal shooting of a black teenager by police sent hundreds of angry residents out of their apartments Saturday in a St. Louis suburb, igniting shouts of "kill the police" during a confrontation that lasted several hours.

A St. Louis County chapter of the NAACP called for the FBI to look into the killing of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, a predominantly black suburb a few miles north of downtown St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported several distraught relatives were outside talking with neighbors, including Brown's mother, Lesley McSpadden, and stepfather, Louis Head. Head held a sign that read: "Ferguson police just executed my unarmed son!!!"

Gaskin said officials in the organization spoke with St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar, who told them teenager had been shot twice.

Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson told the Post-Dispatch that the officer involved has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Ferguson Police Arrest Two Reporters Who Tried to Film Them in a McDonald's

Two journalists covering the Michael Brown shooting case, Wesley Lowrey of The Washington Post and Ryan J. Reilly of The Huffington Post, reported that they were arrested and released by the Ferguson Police Department Wednesday night.

Reilly called in to MSNBC's All In with Chris Hayes and described the arrest. An officer started counting Reilly down, then grabbed his belongings, forced them into his bag, and arrested him. According to Reilly the officer used his finger to create a pressure point in his neck and slammed him against a wall. "The worst part was he slammed my head against the glass purposefully on the way out of McDonald's and then sarcastically apologized for it," he said.

Lowery and Reilly are among the many national journalists who have been reporting from Ferguson in the wake of the shooting death of Michael Brown by a police officer, and the riots and protests that followed. After their arrest, Christina Coleman of KSDK (an NBC affiliate) was hit with tear gas

In the last few days reporters have said they were barred from entering the city. Reporters who have made it in have been tear gassed and threatened by police officers, alongside the residents of Ferguson.

Reilly and Lowery have also released more information about their arrests. Huffington Post released a statement saying the "police resembled soldiers more than officers." Lowery posted a first-person account on the Post website, complete with video of an officer (who does look like a soldier) hustling him out of the McDonald's.
“I hope you’re happy with yourself,” one officer told me. And I responded: “This story’s going to get out there. It’s going to be on the front page of The Washington Post tomorrow.”
And he said, “Yeah, well, you’re going to be in my jail cell tonight.”
Finally, there has been a lot of talk online about what politicians are going to do about it. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon announced late in the evening that he is canceling his planned trip to the state fair tomorrow, to go to Ferguson instead.

It looks like the police are using teenagers as target practice. Has a day gone by there is isn't some unarmed guy getting gunned down by the police?

^

Unless he had a weapon in his hand or something else the cop is a idiot. You are not supposed to shot someone that is just fleeing, that's only as movie thing.

I am guessing there is more to this or the cop should be charged with murder.

Still trying to figure out why Tony Stewart decided to run over a 17 year old myself atm.

Considering that he hit him with the rear tire tells me he didn't intentionally hit him. Also the video clearly shows that he cut the tire to the left and sped up trying to avoid the driver who happened to be out of his car in the middle of the track.

Imagine that McOwned created yet another thread that lacks any useful information.

And your information doesn't quite fit the thread...lol.

Just watched the press conference and St. Louis County police chief stated that there was a struggle in the police car over the officers weapon. That lead to the first shot being fired and the two suspects running in which the cop got out and fired more shots.

Obviously you didn't read what I was replying to in the thread. LOL

LOL, sure didn't. Didn't realize and thought that you were replying to the thread in OT and somehow copied and pasted it here. Sorry about that! 😳

More like that what happens when an anonymous asshole coward is allowed to run roughshod over a website forum attacking another member at will.

Here is the thing, as of right now, this person attacked a police officer and went after his gun. If so, then the shooting was more than likely justified. But there are times when an officer does use excessive force and murders innocent people. But if the NAACP and the black community protest every time an unarmed, albeit guilty of assault, man is killed then its going to take away from the validity of an innocent person is killed because of their skin color.

Now put that same situation on a citizen. You get assaulted, guy goes for your legally possessed firearm, doesn't succeed, you shoot him in the back while he runs away, that's murder.

Agreed, but nowhere does it say he was shot in the back.

Not sure where to go with this. I would have to hear:
1) why the teen was running (what happen and when)
2) why the cops shot
3) why the cops were in that area to begin with

Too much information is missing to conclude anything - be it racial related, police abuse related, the teen doing something that gave the cops reason to gun him down,...

The loss of life is a shame, but more information is needed to determine anything at all.
