And yet we still treat it like it's some kind of personal weakness or vice as opposed to the pathology that it clearly is.

It's pitiful. They aren't missing much in Mississippi unless we're talking about exercise and healthy living.

Eating fried chicken and water melon will do that to you.

watermelon is good for you

Too much sugar. Sugar is bad for you.

Watermelon does -not- have too much sugar. 1 cup @ 46 calories = 10g sugar (~5g fructose and ~3g dextrose)

eating watermelon is not the same thing as eating a candy bar.

Beat me to it.

Eating when you're hungry is not personal weakness any more than drinking water when you're thirsty is.

Choosing to eat double cheeseburgers and chugging coke instead of something healthy is not pathology...

Gotta be the sweet tea. It's like "would you like lemon water to mix with your HFCS?"

It's more complicated than "eating when you're hungry". For most people, it has more to do with poor personal discipline than anything else.

Right. I know lots of people that eat nothing but grease and carbs on a daily basis and maintain a trim figure. I've also watched people try to lose weight a million different ways and come up short every time.

I have a question; do you eat when you're hungry, or do you measure your calories every day?

the simple fact is if you eat more calories than you expend, you will gain weight.

regardless of how much those "trim" people eat, they are expending more calories than they eat.

and on the other end, the fatties aren't.

I love that logic. "My skinny friend eats 15 big macs a day and doesn't exercise, never gains a pound!" No, no he doesn't

Yeah I don't see how not being able to resist eating when your hungry is not a personal weakness. I often get hungry around bedtime... I do not grab a candy bar.

Some fat people are fat from genes, most are not. Most fat people I see order entirely too much food and eat crap all day. How is there no personal weakness here?

And just because some people (a select few) can eat like that all day and not gain any weight doesn't mean that genes are to blame for people that can't and are fat.
