Can anyone who owns one of these video cards confirm that with the latest drivers shadows have been disabled to increase performance?

Software reported to be effected so far is:-

Farcry, Half Life 2 beta, Ruby demo and Splinter Cell.

I would think that the people here who would pay anything for NV's not so greatest overpriced graphics card would be yelling it from the rooftops if they'd heard of any ATI cheating like that.

and again, I don't understand why people bothered with the X800 pro (the only card, btw, that is goign to be careening down in prices, while hte X800XT atleast is guaranteed to be worth more as time goes on)

I am just going by what a x800 pro user has said in an email they sent to me, that is why I want to confirm that there is a problem and it's not just one user who has made a mistake. He also said that the shadows in x2 the threat are not working as well even when he enables them via the game.

X800 issues will undoubtably show up Here. Have your friend post in that forum if he's having issues, maybe it will help track it down.

When the 6800's come out there will be plenty of folks paying the high initial prices for them, too.

I see no reason not to buy an X800pro now if you have less than a 9800pro and don't plan to buy an X800xt. The X800pro's look like decent overclockers too.

I cannot see any way that the X800XT is going to increase in value over time.

not having any problems with shadows, tho i dont play sc on pc

course coming from someone who needs 3 threads going on "ati cheats" i doubt this was a legitimate concern anyway, but i'll give the benefit of the doubt...

I don't remember seeing anything about FarCry shadows, but there are problems with SC:

In the second image above we do see some image quality differences though. Notice that the GeForce 6800Ultra is rendering the scene with shadows falling on the ground and objects. All three Radeon cards are not rendering these shadows in Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. As we all know shadows and lighting are very important in a game to immerse you in the environment. Right now the GeForce 6800Ultra is simply providing a more immersive experience because of the working shadows.

Interestingly enough, the screenshot where all the light rays and shadows through the trees along the trail are being rendered as shown above with the NVIDIA 6800Ultra is where all four of our cards dipped to 18fps or so. The ATI cards all took the performance hit even though they were not showing the scene properly.
I think it only occurs with the non-WHQL beta Catalyst 4.5's.
