I started up my computer after cleaning the hard drive a bit using easycleaner and it came up with an error that said something like system file mising or corrupt. <windows root> \system32\ntoskrnl. I tried doing a check disk which said that there were no errors on the hard drive. I tried the command "bootcfg /rebuild" which said that there were corrupted files on the hard drive and that a check disk should be run. It keeps putting me in circles. Please help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If you have a original WinXP (assuming XP here) you should be able to fix
it through the RECOVERY CONSOLE.

1. Reboot the computer (making sure to place the Windows XP CD in the cdrom drive)
As the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD.
When you see this message press any key.

2. When you see Microsoft Windows XP setup menu, Press 'R' to enter the recovery console.

3. Select OS you wish to fix, and then enter the administrator password.

4. Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32

5. Follow the prompts to overwrite the file (type 'Y') then press enter to overwrite the file.

6. Type exit to reboot the computer.
6a. Cross your fingers (this is microsoft remember)
