Missing jury duty

What's the usual punishment (fine, community service) in your county for missing a day of jury duty (local level)?

Tomorrow I have to risk my life going to the most dangerous area in the city, I'm going to have to sit around doing nothing for up to 8 hours and have an additional punishment on top of that.

I'm not happy about the possibility of a fine considering that the revenue goes to cops who harass me every time I walk down the street.

Don't know why they just never made it voluntary. You'd be surprised but there's actually a lot of people who enjoy it.

Maybe you should just call and say you won't make it and ask them how they feel.

And those are just the people you don't want doing it.

OP: Go and do it. It's part of being an American and enjoying the freedoms we have. Do your part and waste a day at the court house. Chances of you being on the jury are slim and the chances of it taking more than a day or two are even less.

Every time I get a summons to report to jury duty it has been in downtown San Diego which is really inconvenient for me so when that happens I always call and ask to have it moved up to North County. I've never had a problem making or being granted that request.

Maybe there is a courthouse closer to you that you could ask the court to change your assignment to?

I've already missed the assignment. I'm going to court tomorrow to be punished not for jury duty itself. Thank you though:)

I just got done with being apart of the Grand Jury. I thought it was going to suck but it wasnt too bad. I went on Fridays so my weekend always started early.

Just tell them you believe in the principle of Jury nullification and you will get shown the door by the DA and judge fairly quickly.

I just tell them, "Yes, I have been convicted on felony charges." I never have to serve...hell, I never even have to go...I just put that on the jury questionnaire I get in the mail...

How does that work. You're getting called in by the court? I suppose they can do that, but I haven't heard of it around here. They get plenty of people, and don't worry about the no-shows.

It's quite possible the OP received something from Publishers Clearing House and didn't understand what he was reading. It would fit the norm.

IIRC, last year he was posting about how he was 16-17 YO with all kinds of mental illness preventing him from doing well in school, etc., etc.

I think you can just say that you are close friends with the accused, it will be a conflict of interest and they'll let you off.

I do think jury duty should be voluntary though, I think it could be a neat experience, but it's the fact that you are forced that often makes people not like it, and sometimes you just can't such as if it's on a work day.
