Missing hard drive space

So I just installed a Vertex 2 SSD on my system (AWESOME!) however I am noticing something weird where I appear to be missing some hard drive space.

If I select C drive and check space used, it says 17GB.

If I select everything in the C drive, however, there appears to be only 12GB.

I am pretty sure I did not install 17GB worth of stuff.
 
It's not missing, it's just hidden. The 5GB unaccounted for is probably locked up in shadow copies, which are used for System Restore and Previous Versions. If you'd like (and I wouldn't suggest this) you can configure the shadow service to use less space throug the System Restore configuration tab on the System control panel.
