Missing Hard Drive space

I have an 80 GB hard disk. About 20 GB is shown to be taken up by random files and Windows. Another 20 is shown as free space. These readouts come from right clicking on the local disk icon and various disk space trackers I've downloaded.

I'm missing 40 GB.

I had some problems a while back and went through a bunch of system restores which used a lot of space to retain the old settings. I ended up just reinstalling Windows, but the comp won't give the space back. I deleted all tho old files... There's only one partition shown in setup...

Help, thanks.

eh? well setup recognizes it as an 80gb hard drive... did I maybe accidentally tell it to only use 40 gb during my last install? how do I check?

goto your control panel-admin tools- computer management- disk management and look for unallocated space.
