Missed court date

I missed my courtdate for today - for driving without having surrent Insurance information - I had insurance at the time, but I didn't have the current information with me.

Can I go in and just show my information? Or is there something more?

Well, like I said, I'm planning on showing up tomorrow and showing that I had current information at the time . . . am I still going to get arrested?

Damn, I forgot about it since it's no big deal - I had it happen before and they just checked it off once I showed my information. :(

It is possible they issued a warrant, but also possible that you can just go show the information to the clerk and have it dismissed. Keep your original plan and go tommorrow.

No, youll just have more fees to pay. Although technically you could be subject to arrest if the cashier doesnt like your smile.

All she has to do is say, "Officer, this idiot has a warrant."

So smile. Reeeealy big. :)

what you commited is a "Failure to Appear", a bench warrant for your arrest was issued because of this...

I would reccomend that you go to the courthouse, and show the clerk your insurance and drivers license.
you will NOT be arrested, so dont worry...

the judge will ask you to explain why you did not show up, I suggest that you use a very simple and usefull excuse...

he will remove the warrant and as long as your insurance was valid during time that you were issued the citation he will either charge you a very small court fee (under $50) or more than likely nothing...

This happened to me when I was about 16 or so. I also had insurance and thought it was no big deal so I forgot all about the court date.

Nothing is ever certain in legal matters but there is a 99.9% chance a warrant for your arrest was issued. (it was in my case and it "always" is when you fail to appear for court. It's the court's only way of making you appear, they don't just drop the matter)

If so, there is an very good chance that you will be arrested if you show up at the courthouse and tell them who you are. In my case I was advised by a friend to call the clerk and inquire about my status. It turned out the bond was already set and that while I would still be arrested, all that would happen was that I would be arrested, paperwork filed, bond paid, and released. In and out in an hour or so as long as I brought the money to pay the bond. (~$370.00 in my case)


So, call and see what you can find out before you show up. You have nothing to lose.

You dummy! You had no problem before. All you needed to do was show up with proof of insurance and the case would have been dropped. Now you've pissed them off. I don't know what state and county you're in so I don't know what happens next (kind of like posting a computer question without giving the relevant hardware specs), but you'd best call the courthouse immediately and find out.
 

Bench warrant for Failure to Appear. They're not going to come after you, but if you're the subject of a traffic stop, you'll be handcuffed, searched, arrested, and transported to jail for the night 'till you can post bail or appear in court.

The wise thing to do is to appear at the court and turn yourself in.

It's very doubtful a warrant has been issued. Unless the violation is a felony, warrants are almost never issued for traffic infractions, especially one that requires proof of correction like yours. In CA, proof of corrections are handled by the CHP, not the court. That failure-to-appear, unfortunately, will be on your record for a long time.

They tell you to just come by and there will be no problems. But they will arrest you and send you to the state prison for the mentally absent minded.
