Miss, you can't do that here.

A friend tells me she went to a gas station (Shell) and while filling, checks around her car. She uses a brush to knock down some snow around the tires and windows, particularly the rear. Attendant/owner from gas station comes out and tells her, "Miss, you can't do that here".

I told her that was rude and I don't think it is common for stations do say something like that. I also told her, if it happened to me, I'd stop getting my gas there. If wasn't like she was clearing the whole hood and roof, she was clearing from the windows for safer visibility.

So am I being of out line here or is the owner/attendant?

Owner has the right to enforce rules on his property. Customers have the right to take their business elsewhere.

well, if she was knocking off the big chunks that accumulate behind the tires, as you say, then I can see that being a hazard and/or creating a huge mess. that ice/snow isn't the same as what you scrape off your window.

Still, just don't go to that station any more.

I completely see their side of it and don't blame them. It would be obnoxious to pull up to a pump with snow and crap all in the way.

The snow under the tires tend to be nasty. They would probably need to move it so I can see them not wanting it there.

Those big chunks of snow from under the wells can be very hard and cause damage to other vehicles that pull into the station.

So...was it because it was snowing or because she hadn't done this before leaving the house 😛

I wonder if there are regulations/restrictions regarding snow/ice at a gas station?

If the gas station let her do it, then they'd have to let everyone do it. If it's below freezing outside, after a few cars, one of the attendants will have to go out and shovel the snow, which would shut down the pump area for a while = slow down in business. Or they don't shovel, and cars avoid that pump.

Obviously, not everyone will do it, but if they become nazis now, they'll never have to deal with the potential issue.

When that crap melts the owner of the place or employees have to do it. If someone slips and falls right after that person leaves whos gonna get sued?

I saw someone last week slide trough my entire parking lot as they passed trough it to get to another business next door. Guess what? I had to get a sign that read no trough traffic in case someone has an accident on my property.

Take a quick guess how much insurance that place has to keep? Now imagine a few lawsuits to drive that cost up even further...

I would recommend the OP mind his own business and tell their friend to clean up after themselves and stop expecting the world to conform to your whim and fancy..

Lemme guess. Did OP get a ton of awards in high school and grade school telling them their special?

i agree. its rude to do it in the spot. you want to clear the damn car go somewhere else and do it.

Yeah, she should not do that there. It's rude to other drivers and the gas station guys that have to shovel it out of the way.

The pumps are outside and its fucking snowing!!! the insurance of the station gets sued no matter where the SNOW came from.

why the snarky personal attack?

wow really? how about just drive over the stupid snow and get gas? is it that damn hard? ive lived in colorado all my life and never seen this. it will take 60 seconds to clear snow from around the pumps, sorry but gas stations are NOT that busy that shoving snow will have any impact at all on sales.

i have a very good friend who owns a Phillips 66 so i have a pretty good understanding on the ops of a gas station.
