MISLEADING Computer Ads in News Paper

Here in NY we have a company called Pacific Coast that sells REAL CHEAP computers. Listen to the ads they have posted for this week: *These are not my Typos below, as advertised in Sundays Newspaper*

Compaq - 1.1GHZ Intel PIV Processor, 256meg, 75gigHD, 8x DVD, CD-RW, 64bit sound, 56K Modem, Speakers, Win 98, 19" .27dp Monitor...total: $879 (NO REBATES)

Gateway - 1.2GHZ Intel PIII Processor, same as above, $929 (NO REBATES)

Compaq - 1.4GHZ Intel PIV processor, Same as above, $1149 (NO REBATES)

HP - 1.5GHZ Intel PIII Processor, SAME AS ABOVE... $1299 (NO REBATES)

It gets better, FREE w/ $549+ purchase: HP Color Printer, HP Full Page Scanner, Color Camera, Joystick, Surge Protector, FREE LIFETIME INTERNET, OFFICE 2000, and more...

Also, FREE 19" Color TV to first 100 Customers w/purchase over $549!!!!

How do they do it? It is BULLSHIT!!! I called a while back when they advertised a PIII-900 (Not out at that time) and they admitted it was a dual Proc PIII 450, Running Windows 98!!!! I am going to complain and call the Better Business Bureau on them.

I just called 1st location 3 times in 2 hours. Same thing: "No one available in Computer Department"

Called 2nd location: "there is a typo, 1.5 should be a PIV and 1.1 should be a PIII."

Ummm, okay. Selling a 1.5 PIV with all the goodies when they processor just dropped to $800+ this passed week on pricewatch...and a 1.1 PIII, I don't think so.

I am going to go down there with a friend of mine and get on their case big time. He owns a computer company and has to deal with people questioning his prices because of places like Pacific Coast.

I'm in NY too and see the same adds in Newsday. Try explaining to someone that there is no "1.3Ghz PIII" or how they have to buy 3 years of MSN to get the advertised price. It's an obvious scam, there is no way they could make money off the supposed "deals".

Hell, go down there and try to buy one. Pull the cover and confirm what's in there first. Buy one for me too. Why not get a few extra to sell on egay?

And if its BS you could burn them by taking along a hidden video camera for a little "Anandtech Undercover Film at 11"

i've been there, they are scam artists. a while back when 1ghz processors were the fastest they advertised it (1ghz tibird) with the works for around $900. the scanner was literally a $10 pos, the printer was also about a $10 pos. the monitor was a 19 inch paperweight. i couldn't get any specs about the components (advertised 256megs of ram and 64meg video card) because when i asked they changed the subject (ie. how many expansion slots? they said "what else could you possibly add?&quot😉. avoid these places at all cost.

Do the world a favor and take these guys down... feel sorry for the people they took advantage of...

Yes, its bullshit, and you will get burned. There's several places like that around NYC. If you check with the manufacturers you will see that they are not licensed resellers. Also check out the BBB and see all the complaints against that company. Don;t go there man...its one case where its too good to be true, and it isn't.

Yeah,
I called Gateway Country down the block from this place. They are aware of the business practices of this company. I will be going down there soon to check it out. I have Friday off from work, so I will probably go then.

keep us updated. I see these ads all the time. I'm wondering how they will treat you when you grill them about their components.

Talking about misleading ads, see http://www.intel.com

Enhance your broadband experience
As service providers continue to offer faster Internet connections, your processor will not only have to work harder, but smarter. With up to 1.50 GHz of raw power, the Pentium® 4 processor combined with broadband gives you incredible online performance. Plus, the Pentium 4 processor gives you the power you need to handle emerging Web technologies.

Along with Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 (SSE2) that extends MMX? technology and SSE technology, and the addition of 144 new instructions, the Pentium 4 processor gives you the advanced
technology to get the most out of today's and tomorrow's Internet.

Need I even go on? I'm betting that in any other country consumer officials would have a thing or two to say about this campaing.

I live in Huntington Village, we are practically neighbors 😉

I am not that good at grilling people, but my friend is relentless 🙂 We'll have some fun with them.
