I'm considering changing from Computer Engineering to MIS. So I wanna know what kinds of MIS jobs are out there and how well they pay.

Jobs right now? None.

Pay...well...since there are no jobs....none.

Stay in CE if you can hack it.

That site will give you a rough idea of the jobs in the IT industry... here's a good one:

Surfer - Web (IT -- All)
Visits multiple websites to gather information. Requires a high school diploma with 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment. Typically reports to a manager.

You can make $32-40K/year surfing the web. Where can I sign up?! 😉

I graduated last Decemeber from Purdue University with a degree in Industrial Management (basically a business degree with engineering math and sciences piled on top) and minors in MIS and religious studies. Purdue's MBA program was recently ranked 11th in the nation by Wall St. Journal. I've been searching for a job since last Dec in MIS and haven't found a thing yet! I worked one job doing tech support and I'm currently doing some ecommerce work for Target/Amazon.com (pretty much monkey work). My advice to you...stick with the CS degree and get yourself some certifications if you want to make it out of the gates in the IT world. There are about zero entry level positions in MIS these days and you can count on them going to the elite students. If you want to find an entry level job in MIS right now, you either have to know the right people, be the smartest guy around, or have tons of experience. It is my feeling that it will be several more years before the IT sector can recover...even slightly recover. Until then, you can count on their being very very few entry level positions. It's a good thing I want to play music full time!...still workin on that too.

Yes its a useless degree basically without any real backup behind it, such as skills, certifications, or experience. Its nice you know about databases and communications on the business level, but too bad most jobs cant be done just by words and paper alone. The pen isn't mighter in this case.
