Mirror finish paint job questions

I am on my 2nd coat of gloss black now for my top panel. And I am a bit confused on getting a nice finish (not necessarily mirror, but very reflective). I saw pcworkshops tutorial and others and i like pcworkshops, but he didn't use clear gloss coats, which i plan to use. My question is if I sand my last color coat to a pretty flat layer, do I use rubbing compund and car polish and then add clear gloss coats and redo compound and polish? This is because if I sand the color coat and do not use compound and polish before putting clear coats, the sanding scratches would still be on the color coat. Thanks.

I didn't quite get that but here's how some people do it:

1) Sand to metal
2) Few coats of primer
3) Few coats of automotive grade paint
4) A clear coat
5) Buff it with this mirror shine for autos (forget what it's called)

It's like painting a car. Hehe, wonder if MAACO will take my Chieftec case.

Sand the primer and paint between coats with a high grit sandpaper
Then after applying the clear coat buff it out good with some rubbing compound and wax it up to get a real nice shine.

Sorry for my rambling, let me rephrase. If I sand my last color coat before putting on clear coats, wouldn't the sanding scratches still show up on the last color coat? Even 2k grit sandpaper leaves scratches that rubbing compund is supposed to get rid of.
