I just returned from CompUSA where they have the Minolta 1100L Laser Printer marked down on their system to $99.88. Thanks to this Thread, I have learned that there is a Rebate available. This printer is unfortunately not on listed on the CompUSA website. :(

Based on the above listed thread, opinions seem to be mixed on this printer. I have not installed mine yet on XP, but if there are any problems, it'll be going back. :)

Just wanted to make everyone aware that this deal is out there. The CompUSA SKU is 283162.

Happy Hunting!

I'm looking for an inexpensive laser printer.

QMS PagePro 1100L listing for $181.98

10 ppm; 600 dpi;4 MB installed; 4 MB max.

This the same beast on sale at (some?) B&M?

That's actually the PagePro 1100. Believe it or not, there's a 1100 (which people seem to love) and the one in my post, the 1100L (which is not on the CompUSA Website and people have mixed feeling about...see the link to a thread on it in my original post above).

The CompUSA SKU is 283162. Hopefully this is National or I'll be a little embarassed. It come up on the register as $99.88 here in Southern California. So I guess YMMV ("Your Mileage May Vary" for those newbies out there).

Is it better than the Lexmark E110 sold at Staples? Honestly, I don't know. But that's a very good question. They are probably "on par." I just like the idea that this one is a little cheaper up front so there's less $$$ to wait for on the rebate.

Sorry for my delayed response. Anandtech has been very SLOW this evening and it would not let me edit my original post earlier. Grrrrrrrrr...... ;)

I called my local CrapUSA B&M and got told they don't stock Minolta printers. I gave the CSR, Robert, the SKU and found out the printer is a product has been discontinued by the store. P***ed the guy off by telling him that I go buy the printer at Costco.

I called 1-800 CrapUSA and has a CSR check if any stores locally had in the printer in stock. The answer was no for the stores he checked in the St. Louis area. The $99.88 is the systemwide price and I gather they are hard to find.

Afterward, I called a local Costco and ask about their PM policy. Seems Costco won't do PM on any products.

I'm pretty sure CompUSA sells the Toner cartridge for this printer.

Incidentally, to report on my installation of this printer... I give it a B-. Print quality and speed is great! Unfortunately, as many have said, the Windows XP support for this product is sh*t. Yes, I am crapping on my own thread (can I get banned for that?). It works, then it doesn't work. Every so often I get a "Cover Open" error message. This is *the* most common complaint about this printer's driver, and it holds true.

Apparently this has been a problem for about a YEAR, so keep in mind that it probably won't be fixed. I only print rebates, receipts, and UPS Shipping Labels (and ok, recently my resume!), so the printer will not bother me that much under XP. It's a mild inconvenience considering the $69 price tag.

Thank you Atrac. I am new here and wanted to offer my input about this printer to those interested. Sorry if I sound like I'm crapping on the thread.

I bought a new one today @ the Roseville, CA location. I went to the one in Sacramento, CA (Arden area) too. I asked if they had any more "new ones left." Both places said no. The Arden did have the demo model left though. The price was $99.88 before rebate.

My opinion so far. I really needed a laser and couldn't resist the under $75 price deal with rebate. The print quality for text is very good. The graphics are good. As Atrac mentions, the drivers suck. Here is one bad thing I noticed. When you turn the printer on before the computer, it doesn't print properly. This applies in both Windows 98 and 2000. However when you turn on the computer first and printer second, it prints fine.

It appeared to work ok in both Win 98 and 2K. Another slight problem is because it uses the computer's resources, it is slow when you send a whole bunch of pages to the printer. For example, I send about 100 pages at once and it slows my computer down.

Overall, for the price of $69, it's very decent. I would give it a C+/B- and recommend to those who are really really on a budget and want laser. Just be careful about the drivers.

Positives:
a) one of the cheapest laser I've ever seen
b) reasonable price on toner
c) moderately small size
d) reasonably fast printer (10ppm)

Negatives:
a) drivers (bugs with printing-mentioned above)
b) gets very hot
c) no usb
d) no network ability

***Update:
Ok, I just found another problem with this printer. When I try to print a picture such as a graphics through an image editting program such as Macromedia Fireworks, it does not come out right. It comes out all garbled. For all of my text printing, it's really good with no problems.
