Patty Wetterling is parlaying her prominence as an advocate for missing children into a run for Congress.
Wettlering Formally announced her campaign Tuesday at the school in St. Cloud that her son Jacob attended. Jacob Wetterling was eleven when he was abducted nearly 15 years ago and has not been found.
Wettlering says she's "an advocate and a mom" ? not a politician.
But she says her ongoing search for her son, and her work on behalf of missing children, has put her on a path she cannot ignore.
The name of that path, she says, is "hope."
Wetterling is seeking the Democratic endorsement to unseat Republican Representative Mark Kennedy in Minnesota's Sixth District.
Political experts say it's likely to be the only real contest among Minnesota's U.S. House races this year.
