Minimum Vista recommended video card?

Hey guys, I'm building a budget vista system for my dad and he needs a PCI-E video card but plays no games. What are some recommended video cards I could get him? I'm a bit partial to nvidia so let's stick with the geforce line. Thanks!

Since he's not playing games, what does he need the video card for, just Aero? Possibly HD/BluRay acceleration?

Though I'd go with a Radeon 3450 myself, any of the 8400GS cards seen here should suit him just fine.

Yes just Aero and I suppose LCD monitor support. I just upgraded my computer so I'm giving my old Socket 939 board, but he needs a PCI-E card to go along with it. I don't think he'll be doing anything with HD/BlueRay. What about the 7100GS?

the 3450 and the 8400GS are both 30$ - 10$ MIR with passive cooling (completely silent). good driver support, low power consumption, etc.
I really see no reason to get anything else if you don't game.

those being newer models they will also receive driver support for more years to come.
And they actually support DX10, which means they will accelerate Aero (the 7100GS will not, I think it can still run aero, but not as fancy and it takes more of a CPU hit)

yes but he said he wants an nvidia card.

Then go with the 8400GS. 😛

Arguably, the Radeon 3450 is a better card, with better driver support than Nvidia's equivalent cards, but it is your choice.

Go with the MSI 8400GS that taltamir linked you. It seems to be the best for your needs. 🙂
