Minimum salary requirements

For those of you who are graduating soon (within a year) or have graduated and haven't found a job yet, what's the absolute minimum salary you're willing to accept in your first position? Please state your major and location too. Mine is 35k, majored in finance/econ from Davis, CA

I didn't have a minimum. It was my first job so I was looking for whatever position would set me up the best for the future.

Asking for salary without knowing location is worthless.

I'll be finishing my master's in MechE in May with a focus in robotics. In the Baltimore area, I would expect a salary of at least $50k as that seems to be about average, but minimum? I'd take just about anything if for some reason I got really desperate.

43K

graduate BSEE from University of Delaware
got a job that pays much more than that in northern VA so i'm happy

renting isn't that much more expensive here but buying a home sure is

Also depends on what kind of position/field you'll be going into. Personally I think 35k starting w/ just bachelors, w/ no real world experience is kinda optimistic...

AZ...BS in math /w cs minor...considered jobs for around 35-40K ended up with a job for 54K 😀

Bachelor of Science Family and Consumer Sciences...........Consumer Economics.........just landed a 40k base job and potentially 46k with bonuses in Atlanta

$40k is my minimum. Graduating with a BS in Management with about 4.5 years of experience in my co-op. Considering what i have done, I think that is pretty fair. Right now I am planning a new firewall/filtering system.

Man I graduated this June from UCD in electrical engineering and I took a corporate office job for $35k. Take whatever you can get nowadays, it's either that or be unemployed. All that stuff about the economy recovering is BS. Yeah companies are hiring but mostly people with experience, not college grads.

Give it 1-2 years before things pick up.

Your words are so true. I too graduated in electrical engineering and am still amongst the unemployed. Practically EVERY job listing I've found in my field wants more than 3 years experience. I'm probably going to have to work in retail unless I find something soon.

On to the topic, my minimum salary requirement would probably be $45k since I live in southern Indiana, graduated with a BSEE, and have about 1 year worth of co-op experience.

With wanting $45k for a newbie grad in Indiana it's no wonder you're unemployed.

After I graduate from med school (thats the plan), i hope to be makig around 35-40k as a resident. then $$$ as a real doctor

atleast thats the plan

I will be done school with an IS degree in May. I expect ~35k. In the baltimore area. Will have about 1 year of programming experience by then.

Not graduating in a year, but will graduate with my bs and ms in operations research
I expect to start around 70k, DC metro area

Just graduated from Seton Hall with a BA in communication...Studied advertising and Public relations. The only people that seem to be in a hiring blitz right now are financial advising firms and insurance companies. I have been offered two of these type jobs already and sure I could work for them and make 60k my first year, but do I really want to put in 63 hours a week...NO! So i'll hold out for something around 35-40k (40-45 if i take something in NYC) that only requires 40 hours a week and until then i'll continue coaching my swim team and get more satisfaction out of that than any other job.

I graduated with a Asscociates in Visual Communications (plan on finishing but need to make some money first). I took a basic 21k job in a small town doing video production. may not sound like alot but my rent on my 1 bedroom condo is only 350 and my only other real bill is my insurance which is 200 a mounth (god I wish I didn't like to speed so much). So i'm currently getting my credit cards and student loans paid off and if my current position doesn't go anywhere (thiers a chance my boss may be taking a new job and since I"m the only other person who is qualified at our station I'm hopping his replacement will be me 😀 ) if I get that I should be in the 35k range

Graduated with a BS in Psych this past May. Looking for research work to help improve my grad school applications this fall, so I'd be happy with mid-20's in or around Atlanta. It's a pain in the a$$ finding any kind of work at all right now, though. The only offer I've had is with the state, and I really don't want to work in Family and Child Services.

Considering the fact, that every job I've applied for has not asked for a minimum salary, I don't think THAT is the problem. In fact, I know grads from the same program at the same university I went to who found positions in the SAME region as me paying 50k+... I do live in a city of ~150k so its not like I live in BFE.

I make a little bit more than that at my internship. I won't graduate until February. Thjat said $35k is the lowest I'll go. I'm a CS/Economics major.

You're making 35k at an internship?! What internship?

Graduated w/ BS in Business in August 03. Took first job I could find - about $21K. My next (current) job started me around $22K, and in about 8 months I'm at $40K. Not too shabby.

I am doing C/C++ and Java development at an aerospace/defense contractor in central NY.

I'm getting $18/hr, which comes out to $37k a year if you were to look at it that way. So when I graduate I'd like to at least make what I am now.
