Minimum Requirements for Servers

What are the minimum hardware requirements (eg. CPU, RAM, HDD, etc.) of the following dedicated servers for a small home-based business:
  • email server
  • HTML server
  • FTP server
  • multiplayer game server (for entertainment)
  • any other important server services that I may need?

I would like to set up one or more computers as dedicated servers for these services. What software should I run on each of these (eg. OS, clients, etc.)?

It depends on the load that the server will have.....

I'd say that any first generation pentium with a 4Gb hard-disk with linux installed will cover
your starting needs....

nah, you need dual XEON 550s with 2megs of cache and 512megs of ECC SDRAM, SCSI RAID card with 64megs of cache doing a SCSI RAID 5 36gig array. 🙂

or a PII 300 with 128MB and 10gig drive--if you are running NT4
or a PII 300 with 192MB and 10gig drive--if you are running win2k
or a PII 233 with 128MB and 10gig drive--if you are running linux
but a Tbird 700 with 128mb and 10gig drive would be good running all 3 OSes
