Minimum PSU

I was just curious what the minimum PSU would be to power the following:
-AMD San Diego 3700+
-7800gt
-EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra MoBo

Would the minimum PSU for this be 450 watts, or is the not strong enough?

-Thanks

a quality 400w psu with 18A or more on the 12V rail(s) will run it just fine. Check out Fortron if you're on a budget, or Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, etc. Stay away from cheap brands with high wattage ratings. If you plan to OC, then the story is a little different.

🙂 Its true

Are you talking about powering only those three components though?

I didnt put the memory and HDD because I figured those didnt take much power to begin with, maybe the HDD does though. Anyway if the memory and lets say a 100 gig HDD was added to that would 400watt PSU still do the job?

well if you plan to o/c 300 its not a solution, get a good psu brand, and more or less 400 watts , those are the best psu 4 me

1-pc power and cooling
2-seasonic
3-fortron

Antec is a quality brand too right?

Antec is not near the quality of PC P&C, Seasonic or Fortron. However, they are still considered to be a "quality brand."

Any Seasonic S12  but I'd say any QUALITY 350 and up would be fine. Stay safe and go with Seasonic S12 430

Ugh... there is NOTHING wrong with having an Antec... I guess they're the Microsoft of PSU's or something because everyone seems to hate them just because they are so prolific.

Antecs are a fine brand of PSUs to have along with other major manufacturers. Fortrans, Seasonics, PCPC, Enermax, Antec are all good brands to have... pick the right wattage and right price between them and you'll be just fine.

(I've been using Antecs off-and on for 10-years... not in every system, but definately enough of them to know that I've been able to rely on Antec PSU's whenever they are the right wattage for the right price).

+1 on the Antecs... except if I'm going to buy an Antec PSU I'd get the case that's supposed to go with it - they're usually pretty nice, but pretty expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Personally I'm liking the Sonata II right now.

The Seasonic SS400-HT is an 80PLUS approved PSU(very high quality it shows), and it is made for servers. That doesn't matter, unless you care about screws putting the thing tightly in place because you take it to lan parties a lot. The thing has the circuitry of an S12-500, with much higher efficiency, and is very quiet. I would say the 400 watts would be enough, and probably the best PSU you could get right now in terms of efficiency, noise, reliability, and price.($85 shipped depending on location.) can be found at casemod.com

seasonic

quality psu like seasonic can put out 100% of rated load in actual use without losing efficiency or quiet..or just dying like a generic. generics or shady bling bling cr@p psu's lie on their ratings like how those 1000watt generic computer speakers for 19.99 used to😉 a peak or rating at some aburdly low temperature or some other bs. get an s12 or the 430watt.. custom pc magazine did a nice psu' lineup an issue ago if u can find it.
