Minimum post count to create thread

This is such a simple idea I can't be the first to think of it. How about in Hot Deal/Free Stuff/Contests the forum requires you to have a minimum # of posts (I was thinking 500) before you are allowed to create a new thread. Will pretty much eliminate spammers, most self-promoters as well as the innocent n00b.

Thoughts?

I think 500 is too high. Maybe more like 25 or 50.

ETA - Combined with also having to have been a member for at least a month.

25 is too low, a dedicated person could put together 25 replies pretty quickly (hell, that's only about 1 per category these days)...maybe 100 or so.

Its been suggested a number of times below, and it's a tradeoff between encouraging partcipation and preventing spam. I think time might be more important than count. E.g. What if you can't post in HD with 24 hours of signing up. Most spammers sign up, spam, leave.

When I first joined, I had lurked for some time and finally signed up to post something in HD. If I had to wait for 100 posts, I probably never would have...

I also said to combine it with being a member for at least a month. Most spammers aren't going to stick around for a month. They'll just move on.

i don't think post count or member time requirements to post in a forum is something that is possible under the current system.

but i'll look around and ask.

I vote for a minimum of 25 or lower if they're going ahead with this, and only if it applies to the Merchandise/Shopping forums

i agree, but I think the minimum post count should be 20,000 😉

I think you should have to be a member for seven years.

ahhh heck, why even have a hot deal section if you are gonna limit it?? spam is spam, when i get it in my email, i just delete it... even tho it hard to detect it all, but we have helpful tools/people to find the spam; report post or something..

My reply was just to make sure aphex wouldn't be able to post since his method would exclude most people from posting. 🙂
