Minimum parts for computer to be used as router...

I want to build a computer that will just be up to allow two computers on my network to access the cable modem. I'm currently doing it through my computer and WinGate. I want to setup a Linux box that would be able to handle this. What would be the minimum machine that could do it? I may have access to a P166 with 80MB of RAM on it. Also, does anyone know if there are Linux drivers for the Diamond HomeFree phoneline NICs? Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks,
David

Get a copy of Freesco software off the internet. What you have is more than enough. All you need is a 486 with 16 megs of Ram. Save your extra Ram for another computer. All you need is a floppy drive and the 16 megs of Ram. After it is set up you will not need a monitior, keyboard, mouse or hard drive. Freesco uses the 16 megs of Ram as a hard drive. Any more Ram than that is wasted. Freesco is free, stands for Free Cisco. It is Linux based software, but you do not need to know Linux in order to install or use it. Do a search in the Networking thread of this Forum and you will get all the info you need on how to set this up. It is very easy.

1 CPU 486/50 or higher..maybe a 33 would even work
16+ MB of RAM
2 network cards
1 floppy drive
1 486 motherboard with at least 2 ISA slots and a floppy drive connector

oh yeah a power supply would probably be helpful to.

You'll need a keyboard, video card and monitor to set it up, but once it's set up you don't need them.
