With MPC-HC, I had to overclock my BE-2400 to 2.75Ghz, and even then, the audio lagged slightly, with Planet Earth HD-DVD MKV rips.

Once I installed Win7, and got hardware-acceration working (780G), then things were perfect, and I reverted to stock clocks.

I have a 4000+ that I think can just pull it off when it's running at 2.8ghz. I have a 3200+ that can't handle 1080p, but seems to do fine with 720p

Thanks for all of the info, guys. I think I'm going to try and get ahold of the computer for a day, then put a test hard drive in it and install Windows 7 bare and work from there. If it still doesn't work, then I'm going to see if it works on XP (because it did back in the day, I swear it).

Otherwise, he wants to sell the system anyway, but it's not so easy selling a 939 system - any tips on that?
