Hi... heres my story with my samsung 710t (http://product.samsung.com/cgi...;selTab=Specifications)

the monitor is for christmas, but I got a chance to test it out to 'make surethere were no dead pixels'... all i basically did was plug the monitor in and run a few games... no dead pixels but i did see some ghosting on this 12ms monitor... now i was just wondering if any of the following factors can affect the ghosting:

The fact that Its the first time it was used
The fact that I just plugged it in without installing drivers
Should it be plugged into DVI/VGA for mimimal ghosting
Does refreshrate (60hz vs 75hz) affect the amount of ghosting
Does constrast and brightness and all that other crap affect the ghosting?
My vid card is a crappy GF4 ti4200

if anyone has any other ideas as to why I may be seeing the ghosting i dont expect it would be greatly appreciated.. thanks!

Did you have it set to it's native res 1280X1024? Dvi would be better and 75hz refresh rate. I have the 710N and no ghosting in games. Might be your vid card if everything else is set right?

Some people have different levels of sensitivity to ghosting, I guess...

For example, I'm using my brother's 2001FP right now. It's a nice monitor for sure, but the ghosting in games is almost unbearable for me. However, he claims he doesn't notice anything of the sort at all. Now, I'm not sure if that's just because he doesn't really see any, or because he's just trying to justify his $650 purchase. :p

But you get the idea. I'm not really planning on buying an LCD until response times/ghosting goes way down.

My experience is use VGA for less ghosting. With VGA the refresh rate can usually be set higher than DVI but your image quality is not as good with the VGA. Yes, refresh rate will lessen ghosting on an LCD panel.

Ummm, you should never use VGA if DVI is available for an LCD. If you use VGA all that is happening is a conversion of digital data into analog and then a conversion of the analog back into digital that won't quite be the same as the original digital image. There are other advantages to DVI also but I'm not exactly sure what they are.

I have never experienced ghosting in any sort of irritating amount and I'm using a KDS Rad-X 17 inch with 25 or 35ms (it's hard to tell, their site doesn't like to give actual specs for their monitors) response time. If you're experiencing ghosting I guess you're just one of those people unlucky enough to find it seriously, irritatingly, noticeable. You should wait to pass judgement on the monitor until youhave installed the drivers and configured it how you like it though. If that doesn't help I guess you'll just have to keep trying out LCDs as they advance until you find one you like. In the mean time CRTs provide, if anything, better image quality than LCDs plus flexible and higher resolutions for gaming.

For those of us that saw lcd's back when there was more ghosting now it don't seem as bad. With the lower response monitors.

true, i just realized i never ran refreshlock when i tested it out with games, so maybe that 60 to 75hz jump will make a difference?

i doubt very very much that you will see any difference between 60Hz and 75Hz, very much. Once you have a nice new 710T sitting next to that 753DFX you'll realise how bulky, dim, out of focus and ugly it is in comparison, i plan on replacing mine with another 710T very soon

Was it cold in your house when you tested it? What kind of games are running? What kind of FPS are you getting? Using vsync?

I have a 710T and for the most part don't see much ghosting.

Sell/RMA and get a CRT? All LCD's ghost heavy IME. They are prefered buy the same people who think 25-30FPS in games is playable. While discering CRT users find about 60FPS the starting point and anything less is choppy. Fastest LCD's can only do 40MAX and all the while it's a transitional switch which adds to fustration. Congrats. You are part of a dying breed.:)

and im pretty sure i tried it without vsync

Actually, CRTs are being phased out in favor of LCDs. You are part of a dying breed.

No link to the story, BTW. Search the forums.

I prefer LCDs, they're brighter, sharper and produce a perfect image (not in terms of colour reproduction I know but geometry wise)I don't notice any ghosting. What you have said is a bit of an unqualified generalisation.

Be sure to install your monitor drivers, it helps. For a while apparently My LG Studioworks 880LC had a max refresh rate of 60HZ when at default resolution so I never bother to install the drivers. But when I finally did install the drivers, it looks like they had an update because now I was able to go up to 75HZ! So after installing the drivers I wanted to see the difference between the current refresh rate and 75HZ, one way I tested this was to look off to the side and have the monitor out of focus (was looking at printer) and I could actually see the monitor refreshing! Did this with a CRT monitor and it was EVEN WORSE! Tried it on my laptop and I couldn't see it at all. So when I increased the refresh rate of the LG Monitor to 75HZ it I wasn't able to see it anymore which is a good thing. Higher refresh rates equate to less strain on eyes. My monitor unfortunately supports only VGA input and I still to this day have never seen the difference between VGA and DVI :( Maybe I don't want to because it could spoil me! So upping the refresh rate should make that ghosting disappear. I've seen pictures online of what ghosting should look like but apparently that has never affected any of my LCD monitors I've used.

Having a higher refresh rate on an LCD monitor does not reduce eye strain, LCD monitors should not cause eye strain because the image is not redrawn , instead each pixel is changed to the new value from the old value.
