Regardless of OS X, the Mini is a nice machine. You can always install a real free unix on it later.

And to the Windows boosters: I have no idea how you support people who use Windows, unless you're reinstalling their whole system every month or so.

If you want less complaints, get her a Windows computer, and make her figure it out for herself.

I've been a PC user for the past 10 years (before that I didn't know what a computer was). Since getting a Mac, my family members say they never hear me get angry while using the computer anymore, and that's not because I'm silent now, it's just that I find macs much nicer machines to use and that actually seem to work better than PC's running Windows (that's my subjective observation). Don't get me wrong, OS X has it's problems, but for me, there's far less of them than on Windows (infact, the only complaints I have with OS X are with SMB sharing and the help viewer).

Re Red and Black's comment: nearly everyone I know with Windows is reinstalling it every 6 months if not more often. I was one of those ppl until my PC died last month.

Then neither of you must know very many people running Windows XP.

I don't think the problem is the OS. It's the poor support for crappy hardware. Much less crappy hardware in Apple land. 😉

for what its worth, i think i've had the same install of XP for about 18 months or so, if not more. seems pretty stable to me so long as your smart enough not to let spyware get installed on your box every time you check your email.
