haha just buy it. Thats what i did :) Probably some good deals to be had with circuit city on sony camcorders 100 rebate and 100 msn dollars plus they 110% local stores. But this one is $470 right now and all the specs are pretty similar to that of the sony's.

Had a sharp 8mm camcorder a few years back that had great video performance. Would have liked more reviews/info on this one but took the plunge while the 50/500 coupon still valid. At worst, I'll return to buy.com and be out the freight costs. :( Knew I shouldn't have checked this forum today. :)

This isn't that cheap, consider their better model VL-WD450U (25x optical zoom) is only $450 everywhere.

hmmmmmmm maybe this is more camera than I need. All I need is the lowest digi camcoder that uses firewire to hook up with my laptop. Guess i should cancel my order :(

The WD450U is an older camera that is being discontinued. It's not as high-end of a model as this one. And this one just came out, it's a brand new model. I'm assuming it has some better optics from the fat look of the lens.

Better model??????

WD450U -> Lens Pickup (CCD Pixel Count) 460K
VL-AX1U -> Lens Pickup (CCD Pixel Count) 1.3 million

I'll go with the AX1U

If you look at the detailed spec carefully (available at sharp-usa.com), you will find this one has 1.3 million CCD pixel count while VL-WD450U has only 460k. What else makes you believe VL-WD450U is better?

My order has been sent towarehouse but still no email confirmation yet.

Thanks for all your information. By the way, I did a search for $50 off $500 coupon on google.com last night, and add the coupon to my basket. I didn't check out last night, and I found it is still valid now!

Posting links is forbidden, and I don't know what the code is.

Just goto www.google.com, enter "buy.com coupon". Click a few links and you will find it.

Good luck!

I'm curious. People on FW have claimed that they haven't gotten any confirmation e-mails. I got in on this pretty early and got my confirmation e-mail almost immediately. Are people here not getting any confirmation emails? Just trying to figure if this deal is still on or not.

Thanks

Tried the $50 coupon and told me no longer valid. I am more tempted to wait to use the 20% MSN deal at Circuit City. I realize its only credit towards more stuff but I can return easy if any dislikes.

Any more word on this deal?

I received a confirmation email the day after purchase (aprox 10 hours after). When I check the order status it still says processing, so the jury is still out.

fingers still crossed

Hmmm... mine was changed to "sent to warehouse" a few hours after my order as well, and I did get a confirmation email. So much for trying to figure this out :)

Rebates+sales+Amex PM=HOT DEALS.

I ordered the trv27 from Amazon yestday. Will PM, and get it under $600.

good luck

I'm curious as to how you got the trv-27 for under $600? I looked on mysimon.com, cheapest is $704, with rebate, that'd be $604 (plus $35 or so for shipping) and does amazon have free shipping (Amazon's price on trv-27 is $899)?
So who are you Pm'ing with? (I realize amex's PM thing, but did you PM thru amazon or amex?) Thanks. I am looking into getting the trv-27 as well, esp if I can for under $600.

Posted this morning on another forum:

It's currently on back order now. Here is their explaination of back order:

"Back Order - This product is not currently in stock at any of our warehouse locations. We have ordered the product from our supplier, but have not received a date yet as to when we will receive this product. We will update you on the status of your order via email"
