Sharp VL-AX1U MiniDV Camcorder with 3" LCD and 1.3 MP Digital Still Camera

I couldn't find any reviews...
Don't know much about it, but the specs look good...and the price looks pretty good also.

There's a couple of things that makes this camcorder stand out. It has a higher than avg Optical zoom @ 22x, and a zoom microphone to capture audio at a distance. For $500, it looks like a lot of bang for the buck. I couldn't find it for less than $800 anywhere else. Wish I could find a review...

Check out the link.

You'll probably need some tapes!
shipping is reasonable (although the CA tax isn't!)
I've been using these tapes for a while now, and they've been working pretty good.

Incredible deal! Use the 50 off 500 coupon by adding a low-cost item. I don't think you'll find a new camcorder of this level anywhere for $450.

Would that coupon be available on other boards or is it a one-time use that some people got?

Keep in mind that Sony has $100 rebate on their trv27, 25, 18 dv models...along with some digital 8 and MV models.

Canon also has a $100 rebate on their Elura model, or $200 if you buy their portable printer with the Elura.

Rebates+sales+Amex PM=HOT DEALS.

I ordered the trv27 from Amazon yestday. Will PM, and get it under $600.

good luck

Return it to local B&M store? This is Buy.com we're talkin about.

BTW, why is Buy.com charging sales tax?

I just bought one of these... guess I'll be a guinea pig. This camera looks similar to Sharps WD450U which was very well-reviewed, except this one has better specs.

Count me in. Seems like a good deal for $469.50 shipped. Even selling for much higher on ebay so, at the very worst, I can sell on ebay for a profit. $$

Read all reviews for sharp digicams on cnet and epinions. Can't be too bad?

Just confirmed order. Will post review later.

Could this be a pricing error? I hope they don't cancel the order.

Check this out:

Hey, I think there are no reviews out partially because this is a new camera. However, here are some frame-captures:

Might not tell you much unless you can compare it to other cameras in the same price range. So go here and ignore any fonts you don't understand :)

Also does anybody know if this is a buy.com after Thanksgiving sale item? I'm just trying to determine if it's a misprice or not.
Also does buy.com have "Real-time" inventory on their site?

AARRRRRRRRR........ OK I've done it. Change of Xmas plans.
Now for more.......$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
Mem. 8Mb card is not enough
extra battery, and a longer lasting one
3-4 more DV tapes
Leather case, can't lug it around in a paper sack
Protective clear lense
Tape rewind machine, don't want to wear it out
STILL A HOT DEAL

There is a better deal out there. There is a way to get a Sony TRV18 for $400 shipped ($600 - special dollars and rebate). I am going to post it as soon as mine ships.... the last time I posted a killer camcorder deal so many people hit it that I was not able to get in on my own deal and Amazon had it backordered till mid-late December. I've given you enough to find the better deal if you think really hard about it. TRV25 would only be a little more, but I wanted better low light performance. Both are probably better than the sharp cam.

Looks like it could be pricing error, but then again, maybe not. I've been waiting for a minidv cam with photo capability to replace my older panasonic pv-dv100 I bought a few years back (through another hot deal here). 1.3mp is pretty weak these days but boy, that 22x zoom will come in real handy for vacation photos. BTW, what is this 'zoom microphone'? Is that anything like those mics you see advertised for eavesdropping on others?
