But I like them, and am considering buying one in a few years. I see it as (finally) a replacement for the Beetles of yore, albeit with a higher price tag.

bouncing is worse then just getting whacked.

If you're buckled in, how? I gotta figure being bounced away would be preferable than having half of your car crushed, especially if it's the side you're sitting on that gets crushed.

The same reason kids die from being shaken by their parents; the brain gets bounced around like a superball.

Two days ago we had seen a rig going to the dealer with a bunch of ForTwo-looking vehicles on it. Not sure what make/mode they were--looked identical but I didn't think they were available in Canada.

My sister started to B&M that they were much better vehicles and how she was planning on one. Then I pointed out that between our 6000lb truck and the gravel hauler ahead of us you'd resemble a packet of ketchup if you were ever sandwiched between them with its reinforced cage or not ;) She shut up pretty fast...

Edit: Don't get me wrong, they'd be nice if you live in a Smallville-esque village...but with highways having so much on it that'd be just plain stupid.

the car can take it, your body cannot. cars used to be built like that. it wasn't safe. ever shake up an egg in the shell?

So lets all drive tanks because there is the possibility of dieing in a car.

No. How about we let drivers use their own discretion and drive whatever they want on the road whether its a tank (full-size SUV) or a skateboard equivalent (ultra-compact car).

Call me crazy but I welcome the idea of smaller cars getting better gas mileage.
Picture this, I am 79 inches tall (6ft, 7inches) and each day I cram into a 1996 Tocoma pickup truck, single cab. I do not have leg room, my head hits the roof and I have to drive bent over.
I do this because I get great gas mileage and it doen't cost me an arm and a leg on gas....

I'd rather be shaken than crushed.

Have you ever calculated what you are saving on gas?

i live in NYC.

i'd love to drive a small economical car around, but there are just too many horrible drivers on the road in durangos and hummers and navigators.

Seriously. Yeah, the bounce-structure will work great in a low-speed impact, you'll bounce off and slow to a stop. Picture what happens if you get slammed by a soccermom in a fullsize. Those things would look awful cute flying through the air like a shotput.

You'll have to make an underground black-market call out of the Hippie Circle to get that Evil Satan-Worshipping Child-Eating SUV Driver to pick it up for you.

You use your other car. These are (as far as I'm concerned) mostly for use in the daily commute and all the other worthless time spent in your car when you really just need to get from Point A to Point B.

Of course, you could buy a buttload of mountain bikes for the cost of just one of these things that will get you to work even more efficiently and cleanly, but that's neither here nor there.... :p

But then you have to deal with jackass drivers of everything - even a ForTwo - thinking that they not only own the road but have the priveldge - no, the right - no, the DUTY - to run you off it.
