I have seen some designs for DIY equalizers, but they're always huge. unfortunately, I'm not much of an EE, so I don't quite understand the diagrams enough to modify them, or to assess possible modifications.

I have a headset that can get quite loud, but the sound seems a little weird. So, my thought was to make an equalizer that only offers negative gain. My question is if anyone thinks I can build an equalizer small enough to fit on the side of a headset...that is, in a box taped (or otherwise secured) to the headset.

A second question is, where could I find a site that could explain electrical engineering principles to the point that I would be able to implement some of those diagrams, if not make my own modifications.
