I want to bump my system a bit, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade my RAM or my processor (I KNOW I'm going to replace my crappy vid card). Right now I have a 1.2 GHz Athlon and 512 MB PC133 RAM; would upgrading to an AthXP 2000+ make a bigger difference than moving to 512 MB DDR266 RAM? My motherboard supports DDR and PC133, so I don't have to buy a new mobo to make the RAM upgrade.
Also, I'm probably going to hold off on upgrading my sound hardware, but I'm totally confused about the state of PC audio. I know for sure that Creative is the suck and I am never buying another one of their products. Ever. But what's good now? What's top of the line? Is it having Dolby 5.1 or digital out and all that jazz? Or is environmental audio still the coolest thing as far as gaming goes? Is EAX totally proprietary to Creative, or are there non-Creative cards that will do it?
Help a bruva out.
