will a hd and the ethernet adapter be able to work with this mini ps2?
Ethernet is built in, HD won't fit.

Gotta wonder if there will be a way to connect a HD then.

I'm looking to buy a PS2, and I'm wondering if I should grab the grande before they go away.

Damn, that things tiny. Add a battery pack and a 7" lcd screen and you have a portable game/dvd player.

hmm it looks like it has a built in IR port for a DVD remote??
that would be nice no more having to disconnect a controller to use the DVD remote

Well, it wouldn't surprise me if they allocated a space for a 2.5" mobile HDD. No way that a 5.25" will fit in that petite chassis though.

I just preordered mine from gamestop. Apparently they are getting a shipment on the 13th (next week) I also heard that they wont play DVD videos. Can anyone confirm this? I cant find any info on it NOT playing dvd videos.

I don't think they would waste time making a HDD or adaptor for the less than 1 percent of potential buyers who play FFXI.

Or the people who want to use the HDD loader to pirate games.

Whoever said something about a built in IR port - they've had that for a while, I think the last major revision of the PS2 in it's current chassis has had it.

I like the new look, but my ps2 hardly ever gets any play as it is. I'm probably going to give it to my brother in law and keep the xbox.

Man, the PS2 is getting too old for me to even get excited about a "smaller" one. After the new Metal Gear, GTA: San Andreas, and Grand Turismo come out, I will be pretty much done with this system. Heck, I dont even own a PS2, I just use my roomates and my friends.

Ohh, I forgot all aboutt GTA and MGS, maybe I'll keep the PS2 a little longer :)

I'm pretty sure this one plays DVD movies, I see two DVD logos etched into the plastic of the machine, one is probably DVD-Video and the other is probably DVD-Audio or DVD±RW

I recently bought a used one for my son's birthday because there is a shortage of new PS2s in NYC for some reason (probably the release of the new slim model) and when it came it was defective so I sent it back for a replacement and have been having major problems with gamestop as to when they will ship me another one. Today I passed my a gamestop store and noticed they were taking preorders of the new PS2 model so I preordered it and cancelled the used one. It looks so small that I prefer it to the large model cuz my son already has 5 consoles and now I can remove the old first gen PS1 and replace it with an even smaller ps2 that will play ps1 games. But the sales schmuck said it would not play DVD movies (which I dont beleive and dont care as we have so many ways of playing dvd movies in this house). Probably a waste of money but its his birthday and thats what he wants. As far as the HDD goes, im sure there will be a way to hook up a HD on this thing. It does have usb ports so who knows.

yeah, but those pics are for the European market. I have heard no news on the US ps2 2. Although the specs for all the 3 nations that will have ps2 2 have basically the same specs.

Sony was quoted as saying something very close to "Most hardcore gamers that would use the HD already have a PS2 or can buy the older model."

They have no plans to make the HD compatible with this new model.
