As the title says I've been looking for a mini itx case that has a bluray slot and 1 2.5 drive bay. This will be a stand alone extender for a second room and want something thin and decent looking. I saw assassin's thin build and looks great but wish I could put a slim drive in it or something similar.

Most options have full 5.25 drive bay options which I am not against just don't see the need when a slim drive works for half the height. I like the looks of a lot of barebones and mini HTPC systems but again almost none of them have slim drives or the motherboard is cheap and I'd rather just but the case not the combo.

You might be better off just getting a stand alone player if you're planning on just having a 2.5" drive and bluray drive. You 'd have to spend $ on software just to play bluray on the pc. It'll be cheaper to get the stand alone.

This will be an extender not my main HTPC.

I'm looking for an all in one solution. I have a few windows 7 licenses hanging around I can use and have media browser for files from my server. The bluray drive is there to play DVDs or maybe MKV my blurays as needed to play locally. I am trying to make it as simplistic as possible to make it wide and kid proof.

I'm not looking for a stand alone bluray player because then I can view my shares, browse the Internet, watch streams from the Internet, etc

Are you looking for a slim drive bay or slot-load? How small/thin do you want the chassis to be?

I am looking for a slim driver preferred, but I could be ok with a slot loading driver, even though I am not sure what the prices are for Bluray slot loading ones.

Morex Thin ITX Chassis No. 887

It is the perfect size for what I am looking for, but not sure on the mother board and CPU combination that will fit in it.

Ok so I am looking to see if this combination will work.

Case:
Silver-stone Tek Thin Mini-ITX Media Center for Intel DH61AG Mother Board with Slim ODD Bay Case http://amzn.com/B009FU2B5S

CPU:
Intel Core i3-3220T Dual-Core Processor 2.8 Ghz 3MB Cache LGA 1155
http://amzn.com/B0093H8JCM

Memory:
Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory
http://amzn.com/B006EWUOL8

Bluray:
Panasonic UJ240 6x Blu-ray Burner BD-RE/8x DVD±RW DL SATA Drive
http://amzn.com/B003AXW2YQ

Not sure if I need this connector -
StarTech.com Slimline SATA to SATA Adapter with Powerhttp://amzn.com/B002O1W6ZK

System total before OS and HDD which I already have is $350

My question is will the CPU, motherboard, and case all fit and work together? I can't seem to find anything saying it will. Or if I need a fan that I put next to the motherboard in the case.

I am looking to build something similar to this but with a differ motherboard and CPU. Otherwise this would be perfect and have the thin fans I am referring to.

Why not go with a slightly larger case just incase of expansion later on?

Not looking to expand. This will only be an HTPC extender and dvd/bluray player for a bedroom so I am looking for a small appealing case.

Looks like this thermal pipe is needed as a cooler.

CPU Heatpipe:

makes sense, i was just gunna ask about the cooler, i was looking online and that exact one looked like the best option. you thinkin about adding a usb tuner to it for cable or antenna? since you coldnt really put a card in it

Nope don't need a tuner on it since I can get everything I need from my server that is connected to a TiVo XL. I can even set my tivo to stream me a live show using just software.

What software do you use for the streaming?

"Silver-stone Tek Thin Mini-ITX Media Center for Intel DH61AG Mother Board with Slim ODD Bay Case "

That case looks kind of big, this seems like one of those applications something like the APEVIA X-FIT-100 would do well in.

Antec has some little Cases with a 150 watt power supply.

http://www.silentpcreview.com/article959-page1.html

This case comes with a 65 watt and 150 watt version. I suppose you could also use a PICO power supply and have fewer wires. It depends how small you want to go and what kind of CPU you use.

You could also tear out the power supply and use a Thin Mini-ITX motherboard.

I like these. They look really nice, and are easy to put together.

http://www.shop.perfecthometheater....-Ultra-small-aluminum-chassis-HTPC-ITX2-B.htm

Those are nice. I've used the SH-80 which is the OEM version of that case and I can tell you it's hard to keep even a 35W processor cool in those cases. I've found them best suited for Atom, Celeron mobile and i3-3217U mobile motherboards that have on-board DC power (i.e. thin mini-ITX boards). A side-blowing CPU cooler works well in those cases.
