Mini-ITX FTP server build.

This build will be running a cut-down version of linux, I haven't decided which yet. It will be an FTP server, backup computer, and a chance to get my feet wet in linux.

Phylon 7F2WE-1G3 Mini-ITX Mainboard

Morex 2699 Mini-ITX Case

TEAC CD-224E Slimline CD-ROM Drive

Transcend DDR2 533 Memory 512MB

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Concerns:

-The memory from that vendor is overpriced, but the memory can only be 1.25 inches tall to fit the case. Is this standard?

-I'm worried about the hdd being annoyingly loud, as it will be on all the time. Would putting the OS on an IDE flash module help with this? (Linux, so the OS can be put on a flash drive, and is available in small size).

-Is that processor fast enough for my needs, or should I step up to an AMD Geode board?

I use this http://www.pcengines.ch/wrap2e3.htm for my voip server/ linux box, gateway into my nw,. if you want to use it as an ftp server, can get a nslu2 and samba mount it on this box (or unslug it and use it). extremely low power (not really powerful mind you, well it can handle 4-5 calls simultaneously), i run voyage (based on debian) linux on a CF card.
