I recently picked up a Zotac ion mITX motherboard. I am trying to get a cheap descent case for it.. will a shuttle case fit the bill? will the screw holes and everything line up with the shuttle case and this mini itx board? any suggestions?

Should be fine, ITX is just cut down ATX for the most part. The half-way screws on an ATX board are what will fit with the ITX board.
 
Not sure if it'll work. Maybe someone who has tried will pop in and let you know.

Whenever I think about mITX builds I always look at those nice little Lian-Li's but they aren't cheap. They do seam to be reasonably priced for what you get tho.
 
Most Shuttle cases will not work without modification. There are a couple exceptions, usually their lower end cases.

What is your budget for case and PSU? Do you have any specific requirements? What kind of drives (normal sized or notebook sized) will you be using? Need an expansion slot?
 
mobo has its own external psu. i dont need powersupply .. it will house a blu-ray drive and a 3.5" hdd. and this mobo. thats it. no expansion slots needed

i have no idea on the budget.. ofcourse as economical as possible i guess
 
Oh yeah, Zotac ION board with power brick. Damn, I have one (Atom 330 with ION and power brick, brand new) and was trying to sell it for $135. Oh well.

Most cases are made with power supplies so you can just leave them out. Since you are using desktop drives...

Perhaps consider the cheap Apex cases (MI-008, MI-100) or the Rosewill/Thermaltake rebrands. Those are cheap and look decent, and can fit desktop drives. Just set aside the PSU. The only drawback is lousy ventilation.

In Win and Foxconn also makes some ITX cases that use desktop drives, and which also comes with PSUs that you'd remove.

I have a Mini-ITX system housed in an Amazon.com box (free) that happened to be the same width as the board. This might be too economical for your tastes, though. 🙂
