Mini ITX build input

I am going to build a Mini ITX to use in the spare room for Word,email,youtube,etc. It will NOT be used for any sort of gaming. I already have an Antec ISK110 that I got from a guy that is new in the box. Comes with a 90w ps. I can get a hold of the Antec 300-150 case if I need it.

I have been looking at the....

(1)Intel i3-4130T, ASRock H97M-ITX/AC Mini LGA1150 MB ,G.Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3-1600 Memory

(2)AMD 5350, Asus AM1M-A Micro ATX AM1 MB,G.Skill Sniper 8GB DDR3-1600 Memory

The concern I have with the 5350 build is it's at 89W and the Antec case has a 90W PS.

Suggestions,comments,better setup is appreciated.

89W How so? The 4130T is 35W, the 5350 is 25W. The RAM would be roughly the same wattage in either system, and the AM1 mobo would have lower power consumption, as the AM1 APUs are socketed SoCs, so they don't require any ancillary system chipsets. (Though, they may have network, sound, and additional SATA and USB3.0 controllers onboard.)

depending on what kind of RAM you already have.

Cheap, speedy, super-low-wattage... wot'cha think?

You'll have plenty of power for the 5350. According to my Kill-A-Watt, I we getting 35W under load with an SSD drive. I put a Geforce 650Ti video card in and it went up to 95W playing 3-D games like World of Warcraft. I would still suggest the 4130T since it has hyperthreading and faster processor speed.

I saw my problem.I had listed the micro itx and not the mini itx board in the build. After all was said and done,it came out to 64w.

This case has a few advantages over the antec case.

Be careful if you look for the case on other sites; as inwin has a couple of very similar named cases that are sort of dogs (well in the same ballpark as the antec case).

Also purely for price you might want to consider some of the pentinum processors rather than the i3. If I remember correctly you can get close to 80% of the performance for 1/2 the price.

I don't think you can really go wrong with either build based on the usage cases presented.

The Intel build will likely give you better long term performance as applications grow in their requirements, but the AM1 socket is a bit of a mystery. Will we even see more APUs for this socket considering AMDs trends, no one can accurately predict that.

I've built many HTPCs and office PC using AMD APUs because they are just awesome bang for the buck and their thermals always fit within the design of the build. It's been a very long time since I used Intel for something other than a gaming PC or workstation.
