Hey , I have a Mini Dv Camera and I believe it has a firewire option of getting it on the computer but...

what are some good video programs that I can upload it to to download and customize the video with effects?

Is burning it on a dvd with options hard? Is getting it in dvd format difficult to do as well?

I used USB and the camera's(JVC GRD73US) software(Pixela) to do the initial capture. Then I used the software(Ulead DVD MovieFactory 4 SE) that came with my burner(ASUS DRW-1608P2) to start a project, do some editing, and then burning the finished project to DVD-R. It was pretty straightforward, although the Ulead software did take a little time to learn its features and available options.

There are many options including free. As a base (no DVD option), Windows Movie Maker will ingest and edit with effects. You need a DVD creation tool though (Vista resolves this as currently being tested). Avid Free will edit, but does not create DVDs.

Pinnacle/Sony/Adobe/Ulead/Sonic all have <$100 editors with DVD authoring included. I am partial to Pinnacle/Avid solutions, but you can do about anything with any of them. Some of them have trials, so do a search and see if they have trial software to try before you buy.

Edit - Firewire is still the best choice for importing video in. Most Creative Labs Audigy 2 cards come with a firewire port that works very well (the value cards do not if memory serves.)
