Mini Displayport to dual link DVI that actually works?

My brother has a new(ish) Macbook Pro w/ a mini displayport, and he wants to hook it up to his 30" Dell. From the reviews I've read, most of the adaptors have at least a few issues (especially the Apple), and I was wondering if anybody has experience with one that works ALL the time and not just most.

Ive tried 3 plus Apples, all sucked. Active/passive doesnt matter. They work for a minute or two but after any restarts youre screwed. Had to buy new monitors with displayports. ouch.

Idk, I've recently purchased a MacBook myself and I've been planning to buy myself the displayport adapter to hook up to my 27" SAMSUNG... but I'm a little devastated to hear this news.

One of my coworkers just recently bought a cable from amazon that's DisplayPort Male to HDMI male... idk if that's any better, or even if that's what you're looking for.. but maybe that might be better than hooking it up through an adapter?

Can't use HDMI because it can't carry that high of a resolution.

That sucks to hear David. Looks like I'm going to have to get a new monitor. Which one did you get? How does it work with the displayport?
