I do it "Sy-on" but I really have nothing to base that on.

the cooper S has much better class than the tC, but the tC is a more practical car with a lower price tag. however the cooper S will be a lot more fun to drive.

and NFS4 i do think the focus ZX3 is a pretty nice car that has nimble handling and a smooth ride, with interiors that are better than some compacts (take saturn and neon for example), not to mention that it is one cheap car, although a bit under-powered to have any fun on the highways.

and this thread is old.

actually, does anyone know where to get data on maintenance costs for the mini S? The tC would be nice too.. but it's a little new 🙂

hahahahahahahahaha. good one.

wait, you were kidding, right? 😉

personally i think it would be a tough choice. the mini is going to be more fun by a long shot, it's cooler looking, and it's actually far more practical. but tC has that cool roof, great fit/finish, and legendary toyota reliability (even more of an issue when comparing a blown bimmer engine to the bulletproof camry engine in the tC).

i think i'd go with the mini. leave the scion for the 40 year olds and have some fun while i'm still young.

i'm curious as to why you'd say it's more practical than a tC. there isn't exactlyl much cargo room either way, both have pretty crappy back seat space.

why did you all get the same cars... buy 2 get one free??

the current civic is crap. it looks like crap, it has a crap interior, and compared to the old one has a crap suspension.

Pretty contradictive statement you got there, considering that where I live (NYC), I can find at least 5-9 Civics within a square block

The tC does NOT have crappy back seat space. Headroom is a bit cramped for six-footers but legspace is great, even with the seats back all the way. And cargo space with the tC rear seats folded rocks!

Law of diminishing benefit - for each additonal benefit, expect to pay an ever-higher cost for it.

The S is 34% better than the TC but at 76% more cost.

For what you want it for (80-mile daily commute + fiancee and dog), I'd get the TC.

Between those two, the Cooper S. Not only for the fun factor, but it's a pretty damn safe & solid car from what I've read.

The tC is certainly not an awful looking car though, and is a fairly good value packaged with Toyota reliability. You can't go horribly wrong either way here, IMO.
