Mini atx case cooling question

wyvrn

Lifer
I just put together a second system with a celery that I want to o/c. Due to space constraints I used a mini atx case. This case can accept a fan up front but has no room for one in upper back by the powre supply. I want to have a fan near the cpu to blow the hot air out. Should I mod the top of the case for a 80mm fan? Any other suggestions?

that is what I would try. If your case has removable sides (and the top stays in place). For an 80mm hole you will need a 3 inch hole saw. Make sure you get a bi-metal hole saw or else you will waste the blade. Borrow a pretty beefy drill too.

i have a M-atx, and i modded it for a 92mm subnon up front and i cut a hole behind the cpu area to have another 92mm exhausting... with m-atx, the whale hole blowhole isn't as useful because the area is so small that wires usually bunch up a bit up there and block flow anyway

Thanks. I have a hole saw already and that seems to be the way. Now I just need a fan grill and I will be on my way...

Yeah I put a fan grille to protect the fan in the top of my case. I wanted to make sure my stupid cat didnt get his tail in there.😀
