Anyone know where I could buy something to adapt this to a standard 3-pin fan connector, or even the name of the connector so I have something to search for on Mouser or a site like that? Was thinking about changing the heatsink on my GPU, and for cable routing it would be more convenient to plug the fans on the aftermarket heatsink into the GPU fan header instead of a 4-pin molex from the PSU.

Or if someone has an extra GPU fan lying around that uses this connector, I might be interested in taking it off your hands and cannibalizing the connector.

Depending on the size of the fan that connector on the card might not be able to handle the current, especially if its more than twice the current required by the stock fan.

That said why buy anything just cut off that connector and splice it to the aftermarket fan.

I would, but I don't want to mod the stock cooler. Intend to keep it in tact so down the road I can put it back on when I go to sell the card.

I take the pins out of the fan connector housing and insert in to +,- pins on the video card. It would be useful to have some 1/8" heatshrink or electric tape to prevent potential short.

This is what you want...but finding it in the US will be pretty tough.

Hmmm...check this.

He found these parts:
Connector housing - http://search.digikey.com/scripts/D...k=hp_go_button&KeyWords=455-1164-ND&x=31&y=14

Connectors - http://search.digikey.com/scripts/D...g=en&site=us&keywords=455-1127-1-ND&x=16&y=11

I remember going through the same thing you are...never went through with it, used a fan controller instead. Found my original post!

Posted the same thing in VC&G, was directed to this thread. There are lots of links to different adaptors here, but if we already have the proper connection by way of an old stock cooler, does anyone know what cables correspond to which between the two different types of connectors?

Getting the connectors is easy, figuring out where the pins actually go seems to be a much trickier process that no one seems to have an answer to.

Thanks!

I'm not certain that you'll be able to control fan speed though.

First I would see if the card has a problem with the card fan being unplugged. A lot of them don't monitor the fan for failure. If that is true just unplug the cards fan and power your new fan off a drive connector like normal.
