that is sweet.

Does the rock radiate that radiation back or does it just absorb it? That would be key to commercializing it. Otherwise you are just displacing the radiation.

Assuming it can be commercialized; i wonder what the eco people will use to block nuclear power after that.

Is that a reliable news source? You figure the media would be all over this.

If you read up on the slashdot comments, the original article is pure BS

I am not getting too excited about it yet, but if it is true that's INCREDIBLE news.

www.russiatoday.ru

I'm gonna say no. Hope I'm wrong.

Why wouldn't a Russian news website use the .ru extension?

i think he's saying that because its from russia, that automatically means its fake.

sort of like how all nigerians are scammers.

I can't believe how anyone even remotely familiar with physics can believe this BS.
It's just like saying 'a cactus placed by your monitor absorbs radiation'.

You can shut down nuclear chain reaction by slowing down neutrons with certain elements (Berillium is the most widely used one), but 'extracting radiation from nuclear waste' is on the order of 'A baby with three heads found after being abducted by Aliens' on the front cover of Enquirer Daily.

I'm an "eco person" and I am 100% in favor of nuclear power. Don't lump people into neatly defined groups like the media does mate.

Exactly. In the print version of this source there was probably an article about UFOs or psychics lifting cars with their mind right next to it.

Wow, they discovered led!!!!! OMFG!

Am I the only one that knows that led absorbs radiation?

Light emitting diodes absorb radiation? Nice, I had no idea.

If you're talking about Lead, on the other hand, it does a decent job of shielding against some types of radiation.
