Minecraft support: Making Origin look amazing in comparison

My minecraft account purchased at least a year ago worked last March I guess. I tried to login a couple weeks ago because of the new release and the password didn't work. To make matters worse, I no longer have access to the email address that the account is linked too. Admittedly this is a worse case scenario, made worse by the fact that I read Mojang stopped changing email addresses to "prevent hacking"...ignoring that a large number of email addresses are pretty transient in nature.

Anyway, I do still have a paypal receipt and there was a hacked account option on the support page so I used that...and later submitted a support request. And later twittered notch...and two other minecraft personal I found through *sigh* twitter. And emailed one of them directly. And I've received no response from any of this. I 'guess' it has only been two weeks I thought...maybe they're backed up?

I then googled around and read the last 10 or so pages of the "unofficial" support forums account problem sticky, a reddit page, getsatisfaction.com entries...and suffice to say that it seems pretty sure my account is gone for good. Other people seemed to have it way worse and have waited way longer and still seen nothing. Tons of people complaining that the password reset option doesn't even send them emails or appears to ignore changes, a shocking amount of people who claimed their account premium status suddenly disappeared for no reason and people whose money had been taken but could never login. Even if I wanted to purchase another account (LOL, no!) there appears to be a non trivial chance that I still wouldn't be able to play!

Apparently, Mojang does not in fact have a support team. They have a cleverly designed honey pot that absorbs support requests and deposits them into a black hole somewhere. I know the company is small and new...but I also know they are rolling in cash and have few employees. I don't think it takes an MBA to know you should throw some money at the problem to get some basic account purchasing and maintenance systems going.

I'm amazed at how little support they have as well. I hope nothing ever happens to my account. I thought once 1.0 released that the whole registration process and login screen would be different, but it's the same thing.

At least if you still wanted to play it you could just log into "offline" servers with a simple bat file (or create your own offline server). You could always play single player without logging in too.

I'd be happy to just play single player. But it won't download the game files until I login...which I can't.

I wish I had the direct download link. I had it right before minecon, but the page I got it from switched it back to the RC2 download. Either way, this is the page that has the RC2 download. I know it's available on torrents, but I'm always a little cautious when downloading jar files from unknown sources.

This one still works (direct from assets.minecraft.net)

It sucks you can't get it resolved. Hopefully with all the people complaining it might get them moving on hiring some additional support staff.

Minecraft apparently got buggy as shit with 1.0.0. It worked fine before, now it's gone to hell. I can't even connect to friends and it won't let you use your own sounds (their new sounds suck).

I just played 1.0 for a few minutes, but the new fall sound makes me shudder every time.

it's just an indie game dev group, notch doesn't even work on it anymore i believe. they have TONS of cash, but it appears no real understanding on how to capitalize on it or take this to a new level.

They deserve it, but yeah it sucks that basically there is no support for financial problems

Strange that you are having issues. I've had no issues at all with 1.0.0 (or 1.0.1 which was just a server update to help connection problems). Even all of my texture packs and bukkit plugins work fine.

Also, regarding sounds, have a look at Spout. I think it allows you to use custom sounds.

I've not yet played Minecraft, but I own it, and have a question.

What's the installed size (without mods), and is it the type of game that would benefit from being installed on my SSD or would my spindle drive be fine?

The game is pretty small. I think it is less than 100MB, although I don't think being stored on an SSD will help that much. Still, since it is so tiny, it wouldn't hurt. I know I have slow downs on occasion while the game is creating new areas when I am flying around in creative mode.

I still have received no response from any of my communication attempts but as I said that is what I expected after reading around. I'm not the only one is this situation, the "account help" section of the unofficial forums has a thread that describes how to get help. It is filled with responses from people that have attempted the options and received no response.

Anyway, I'm using jar file Wyndru linked. Not really interested in buying another copy of the game at this point.

Lots of people are having problems. I've found several threads about it on forums. The game isn't unplayable, just buggy.
