I don't know enough about server processors except to say they make for great servers :)

But as a desktop PC for playing the game Minecraft, will it work?
I ask because I have been donated a PC from work that uses a Xeon processor. I don't play Minecraft, but my nephew does and I would love to gift this to him if it can play the game on it.

The Xeon product line has been around for years.

What kind of Xeon is it? And what kind of video card? And how much RAM?

There's not much difference between server and consumer grade processors. Used to be that they were tweaked for stability under load but otherwise they perform the same.

It really depends on what kind of processor and GPU the computer has. Xeon is an umbrella term for Intel's server processor that's existed as far back as the original Pentiums IIRC.

Xeon's are X86 based. The only ones you need to be worried about are ARM, SPARC (and derivatives such as SuperSPARC, UltraSPARC, and SPARC T-Series), and Itanium.
