mincom, serial stuff, my cellphone, and pl2303

I have a Kyocera Strobe cell phone (its old, and crap, nevermind that) and a while back bought a USB cable for it. I forgot about it until...20 minutes ago.

Anyway, I plug it in and ubuntu sees it, lsusb returns "Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2303 Serial Port"

I poked around and it *should* work, but I have no idea how to make it work, or tell if it's working. I set minicom to use /dev/ttyUSB0 but get nada returned when it starts up.

Any ideas? I checked the ubuntu forums and other members have maybe kinda gotten it to work, but I'd sooner ask here, than there. Ideally I'd to be able to connect, look around on my phone for the hell of it, and if Im lucky, be able to get data off it (contacts, pics, messages, whatever)
