Ok I'm on Windows 98 just Installed that MSI PhotoSuite to use with my digital camera and take pictures

then i noticed that it automatically associated GIF and JPEG images to itself and made them part of the file type PhotoSuite Image. And the old JPEG Image file type was only left for the extension JFIF

I tried to reassociate the .jpg and jpe extension to this file type but it wouldnt let me in Folder Options. So I deleted the JPEG Image file type, and re-added it

it's fine except that the MIME Type image/jpeg seems to have disappeared from the menu, and all that's left is image/bmp and image/png

and since I have the View As A Webpage feature on for my folders, when i click and image or html file it should normally show a thumbnail of it under the file size. but now it doesn't show a thumbnail for the GIF and JPEG files. I re-added both these files types but still won't show up. The MIME type for GIF, image/gif, is also gone from the list

Anyone know how to fix this? Get the default MIME types showing again, and make the thumbnails for it show up?

To re-associate the Gif and JPG files in Win9x,

Click on the file
While holding the SHIFT Key, right-click mouse
Select OPEN WITH (will not show on menu if you do not hold Shift down)
Associate file with iexplorer

BMP are associated with MS Paint.

I did that

and it's fine except that the thumbnail still doesn't show up on the left like it used to. It shows up when I highlight a html file or a bitmap, but no longer for GIFs, and JPEGs(jpg, jpeg, jpa, jfif, jpa)

and even when i choose to open it with Explorer, then go to Folder Options the Content Type (MIME type) is left blank. whereas it should said image/jpeg and image/gif

and it creates the file type JPG File. It SHOULD be JPEG Image. WHen I create this manually and set it to open with iexplore it still doesn't show the thumbnail now the mime type.

While this isn't a crucial problem, it is quite annoying because i don't like to have anything wrong with my computer and I do a lot of image work and have tons of pics on my hard drive, so it's much easier to preview before i open the image

Make sure you have the Enable thumbnail view checked.

Right-click on folder that contains images and check Enable thumbnail view.

If all else fails, you can edit the Registry. (make sure to back it up first)

Under
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ file type\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}
(where filetype is the file extension (ex. JPG))

Value: (Default)="{7376D660-C583-11d0-A3A5-00C04FD706EC}"
(for all file types)
