I have to sign up for some company training next week and I have a choice of going to either Milwaukee or Indy. Anyone have some suggestions on which city to go to? I don't really know the size of either place, but I would prefer to go to the bigger city.

I never hear anything about Indianapolis. It's almost like a non-existent city, or for that matter, a state. Milwaukee it is.

Milwaukee. At least you can visit the Harley factory and get some brewery tours.

My folks live in Indy. It's a nice, albeit somewhat bland, city. The art museum is (believe it or not) quite impressive and Broad Ripple is a good place to have a beer and do some shopping.

Since I live 15 miles from Milwaukee, I would have to say Indy. Just remember, if you visit Milwaukee, make sure to lock your doors and be careful where you go. Milwaukee is like the force, it has a light side and it has a ...

Hmm that sounds good so far. Any good places to eat there? My wife is going to join me on the last day of my training so we'll probably hang out there on Friday night and all of Saturday.

I live about an hour from Indy and have only been there once. Even living so close to Indy, I almost never hear about it. Nothing ever happens in that city. They've got some cool malls though; much better than West Lafayette.

Indy sucks. I'm @ Purdue, went once and it's not even like it's a city. The burbs around it are much more interesting than Indy itself. Milwaukee at least has some colleges (hot women) and brewing factories. Need I say more?

Sprecher and Miller both have Brewery tours you can sign up for. Where in Milwaukee are you going to be staying? If it's downtown, there's bars all along Water Street. If somewhere else, we can find you something to do.

Yeah if you drive through the ghetto section. What are you talking about? There's no businesses in the ghetto areas anyway so you're fine unless you drive around late shouting racial slurs.

Nonsense. I lived there for 15 years, all of it in the city and half of that it in what XZeroII would probably classify as the ghetto. It's one of the most livable cities around. Some suburbanites are scared of their own shadows.

I'd pick Milwaukee, especially if the Brewers are in town. Also check out the zoo (its excellent) and maybe the museum (if you like them). Chicago is only a short drive away for the weekends if Milwaukee don't interest you.

I wonder how bad the ghettos are? I'm training to do phone line and fiber installations so I could literally be in any given part of the city. Maybe now would be a good time to shop for a teflon suit

It's all overrated. Nothing to worry about at all.

If you like Mexican, you have to head to La Fuente while you're here (5th and National). There's always the loser Brewers to go see in the fancy new stadium too if you like that sort of thing.

Milwaukee ... bars usually have good prices in the entire state of Wisconsin. They also have awesome Bratworst.
And, If you are gonna have a chance to maybe see a live show, the Rave/Eagles Auditorium is an awesome venue.

Been to Indi once and it was Ok. There is a mall that has the entire upper level covered in bars. That was a fun night. Went to the Hooters there and had a phili cheese steak, that was not a fun afternoon. In fact I haven't been to a Hooters since.

grew up a half hour from milwaukee....if you go there...get fuentes for dinner (as already mentioned). check out the art museum at www.mam.org. it's awesome to see!

of course, you need to have a few beers on water street and see the brewers play. if you are there in july, check out www.summerfest.com. (i'm not sure if you are going to milwaukee or signing up in a week as your post is ambiguous)

Born and raised and living in MKE for life... when you stopping by? Its a wonderful city (almost) any time of the year. Ill be more than happy to direct you to things you may like to do... PM w/ what you like and dont like and Ill toss tons of suggetions.

Sure La Fuente is good, but its gone WAY commercial now. Service went through the cr@pper and the food can be hit or miss now too. There are much better MExican joints now... Im not telling though or they will go the way of LaFuente!

i live here in indy and i'd recommend milwaukee...or as the indians call it....milli waw kay.
The only reason you would like indianapolis is if you're
a.) a sports fan, specifically basketball or
b.) really into malls. i don't go much b/c i hate malls but they're still very nice. especially the one downtown "circle center mall".
like someone else mentioned, the art museum is really nice but it's been under construction for at least a year.
